Cash & Miles Getaway Special

Has anyone seen this yet? :

Northwest Airlines is offering incredible cash and miles deals on Fall travel through November 15, 2001 for qualifying WorldPerks members.

To qualify, you must:
- Be a WorldPerks member residing in the U.S. 48

- Have a minimum of 5,000 miles in your WorldPerks account

Domestic Airfare as low as $128 and 5,000 WorldPerks miles roundtrip

Trans-Atlantic Airfare as low as $275 and 5,000 WorldPerks miles roundtrip

Trans-Pacific Airfare as low as $399 and 5,000 WordPerks miles roundtrip.

Seems like a pretty good effort to get us back in the air...

Though the fares are good, given how the economy is doing and that we're getting closer to the very low season for travel to Europe, I don't know how great they are given that no miles are earned.

There certainly are better fares out there for some destinations. Zone A-C is at $238 plus 5000 miles -- I just booked BWI-SEA for $198.

It's a good deal for those looking to go to higher-airfare European destinations, like Nice instead of Paris.

Very rarely are miles plus dollars awards worth it. They are generally capacity controlled - so people who aren't flexible in their travel dates can't use them, and people who are can often do better.

The real deals on northwest are out there, for example BOS-LAS was 98USD (114 all in).

But with the lack of miles awarded, these are dogs, especially with the partner mile program requiring that you earn WP miles to qualify. You could be losing, not just the mileage from the flight, but 5000 flight miles from partners as well.

Very costly.

My bottom line is: with award travel on NW as generous as it is - pay with just miles.
