OnePass or WorldPerks ?
 

I need some help guys. I've been a loyal Delta flyer for the past 4 years. I don't really fly a lot to be able to get as many 800 upgrades to be sitting up front more often so I decided to switch to the airline that will give me unlimited upgrades and a little bit of more bonus miles for being Elite Member ( I think 25% is a joke ).

Anyway, I've been trying to figure out which program to choose. I'll be probably using NW most of the time ( due to schedule ) and mainly because the price difference between LIT and DFW on CO and NW is HUGE!

As far as I know there is no difference in upgrade policy and it basically doesn't matter what program I belong to and have the elite level at right ? I mean as long as I use one of them. So what do you think? Where should I start putting the miles WorldPerks or OnePass ?

What are you preferred carriers over the Pacific or Atlantic? Remember that you can earn NW miles on KLM but not on CO. On CO, you can earn CO miles on AF/VS code-share flights but not on NW?

If you fly first/business class (paid travel, not upgrade), I'd recommend CO the class of service bonus counts towards the elite-qualifying miles.

As mentioned before, check out the international partners that you can earn status miles on. If you fly a lot of international KLM may make NW the better choice.

If you fly primarily on NW, you won't get the 1000 mile online booking bonus if you're a OnePass member. Small point, but maybe important.

If you primarily a lot of short segments (which DFW-LIT certainly is), then it's easy - go with OnePass. LIT-MEM-DFW R/T is 2000 status miles in either program. It would take 12.5 round-trips to qualify for silver in Worldperks. However, since OnePass allows for segment qualification at 30 segments, you could get silver with 7.5 round-trips.

I flew 55K miles and 90 segments last year, about 70% on NW. I wouldn't have even come close to Platinum in Worldperks.

OnePass participates in the HHonors Reward Exchange; WorldPerks doesn't. If you ever need a few extra miles to reach an award level, that could be an issue.

Well, I want to thank you guys for all the help. I chose OnePass, but mainly flying NW. I just hit Silver last week and I have a 100% upgrade rate ( just 7/7 ) but I think it's still good. I'm very happy with OnePass. The customer service is very good. Just before I hit Elite (I was 6 segment short) I called OP and spoke to the supervisor who asked me to fax her some boarding passes for the flights that havent posted and that she would upgrade my account to Silver. Well, 3 hours later I was Silver. Today I'll hit Silver by flying http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Anyway, I'll start flying internationally by the end of the year (at least once every two months) and mostly to Poland (we just opened an office in there) so I'll be mostly on KLM and NW. I've not checked yet If CO has codeshare on AMS-WAW with KLM but I hope it does.

CO OP counts segments towards status, NW WP doesn't. So if you do alot of shorthauls, CO is the way to do it.

I do mostly domestic, mostly shorthauls, so hitting 75k is at times tough, especially since I want to keep my Plat with AA (60 segs). So I have to look at doing real short legs on AA so can get get the segments, then doing the longer legs on NW for the mileage. Last year, I had 110 segs on NW/CO combined, which amounted to 78k in mileage.

Should I ever shortfall the mileage on NW and they don't keep me as Plat, I'll switch to CO OP since the segments matter to them.

Just to clarify the NW/KLM thing: you can get CO OnePass credit on NW codeshare flights operated by KLM. This should work in your case, since as long as the flights originate in the US (I think), e.g. USA city-AMS on NW, then AMS-WAW on KLM -- you usually get NW flight numbers all the way. As long as your flight is ticketed as NW flights and not KL, and make sure to keep copies of your ticket and boarding pass, because you will have to probably mail it in - then you should have no problems on having it count towards your elite miles.

Sounds like you've decided, but I will post a couple of comments to consider. I have a Northwest account which I opened about the time when the 10K promotion started. The rest of my family doesn't fly near as often so if we fly NW they put all their miles on their CO.

This month we flew NW. I had registered for a 100% bonus for connecting through Memphis and our itinerary got rerouted through Memphis. I was the only one to get the 2370 extra miles on WorldPerks. I was the only one to get the 1000 booking bonus (now increased, I think?). We also got food vouchers for the delay which could be used instead for 1000 miles each. Since these are not marked, I will go ahead and use all of them, so there is 4000 extra miles. In any case, I received 7370 bonus miles on this one round trip which would not have posted on a OnePass. Something to think about.
