What to Expect to BKK??

I am planning a trip to BKK in mid-October, flying NW and upgrading with my CO miles. I have flown NW domestic many times, and to Hawaii once (great seats upstairs on a 747-200, incredibly bad service).
Any comments on the kind of service I can expect? My routing will be MKE-DTW-NRT-BKK and the flip for the return. Thanks! Also, any word on the best seats in WBC on the 747-400?
ps...this trip will make me Platinum Elite with OnePass for 2002 http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

As I do alot of runs on the asia route, I'd say go upstairs, middle of the sections on the 744, coz you have really no overhead storage forward the emergency row exits. It's like your own lounge up there, really nice and quiet. Row 77 or 78 on the 744 and make sure to get row 86 on the NRT-BKK flight coz it has LOADS of room! I just got back from TPE and was sorry I got the bulkhead, 86 had another foot of room. Be aware you'll be getting into BKK late though...that's one of the downsides of the NRT connections.

I have flown the NRT to BKK flight (NW1) many times. It is a 747-400. I find that the main cabin, rows 1-4, are the best for me. These are the former FC seats. Upstairs is fine also - I just prefer the first 4 rows in the nose. On the 747-200, I definitely prefer the uptairs - again the former first class. Row 86 is best for me, followed by row 87. Have agood trip

I like rows 1-4, the old FC section of the 747-400 which is used for both the DTW-NRT and NRT-BKK sections.

Last year I had row 4, in the old first class section, and the center 2 seats fully reclined. I hope they stil do this as we ae booked to go to BKK again in January.

Would have to agree with all the previous posts. I've done originating in SEA, SFO, and LAX connecting through NRT to BKK. The nice thing about the upper deck (other than what has already been stated) is that you get these great storage bins on the window seat. Perfect storage location for small toiletry bag, magazines, slippers, laptop, etc. Also, the lid of the storage bin makes for a great shelf/deck for your in-flight items. So basically, if you're going to the upper deck, be sure to ask for a window seat.

Service by the FA's on the US to NRT leg tends to be mediocre at best. However, the NRT-BKK crew are wonderful with great personel service.

Yes, your flight into BKK gets in late, and your flight out of BKK (NW 2) is very, very early (6:00am). This has always been a downside to NW to BKK. Also, the WBC lounge you'll be using in BKK is not that great (maybe it's because of the fact that it's around 4:30am and I've just been partying all night before http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif
