WP Miles on CO codeshare on Virgin
 

I'm flying to London July 20 for the World Scouting Jamboree as a volunteer so trying to get best airfare since it's coming from my pocket. I usually take WP miles on CO flights and see there is a CO itinerary using the overseas flight into LHR on Virgin. If I take this option will I still get WP miles (Virgin not a SkyTeam partner but it says it is a CO codeshare). I've never flown Virgin and have heard about the service but don't know if it is great in coach or just up front.

You earn miles based on the operating partner, regardless of who is codesharing the flight. Virgin is the operating partner and is not a mileage earning partner for Northwest WorldPerks members. So flying Virgin will net you no miles to your WP account, unfortunately.

That's not always the case. I flew CVG-CDG-OTP on an AF ticket, and the CDG-OTP flight was a codeshare AF flight operated by RO. I got the miles for it. I've done this itin several times and always got the miles. (It was, after all, an AF ticket.)

How'd it post? As AFxxxx? Generally speaking, this is an exception to the rule, as you'll note on nwa.com that mileage is earned based on the operated carrier. CO-codeshares on Virgin is not one of those exceptions.

I have been caught short, before flying an AA flight on a Alaska ticket . When I wrote NWA they said it was An AA flight and would not give me the miles, even though it was an Alaska code shared flight and ticket that I had.
