Elite Packets?

Has anyone received their elite packets yet? Also, if you received silver elite, could you please specify what you received.

Wiirachay Feb 24, 2001 8:55 am

* 1 Luggage tag identifying you as a Silver Elite
* Elite card
* Letter
* Elite handbook

Nothing really surprising.

GRR_Flyer Feb 24, 2001 10:10 am

My gold elite tag is almost impossible to read. It sure seems like NWA could do just a little better job on the luggage tages. Remember the metal tages (1998?)

I received my Platinum Package yesterday:

2 luggage tags
1 elite card
1 letter
8 one-way F/C upgrade certs for Alaska Air
1 benefits book

Compared to last year (Platinum), I am disappointed.

Even us lowly OnePass Silvers get a better package than WorldPerks Platinums. I got my card, 2 plastic luggage tags, 2 Presidents Club passess, and a $50 gift certificate for ashford.com.

thezipper Feb 24, 2001 5:21 pm

Here's what the CO Platinums got....

Platinum Elite Card
Leather Luggage Tag
2 Plastic Priority Luggage Tags
2 Continental Currency Vouchers
$100 Ashford Certificate
500 Bonus Miles Certificate – Starwood Stay
Fast Track HHonors VIP

....and lets not forget about the billions of bonus miles that CO OP members can get, just check their board!

Hmmmm I think NW needs to do some severe sucking up to me if they want me to stay elite with them.....

Efrem Feb 25, 2001 1:20 am

AA Exec Platinums (also top-tier, though it takes 100,000 miles to get there rather than 75,000 - unless you fly paid first/business a lot, in which case it can take as little as 66,667 flight miles):

1 ID card
3 luggage tags (heavy, durable plastic)
1 Letter
1 Benefits book
8 one-way systemwide upgrade certificates

swaggie Feb 25, 2001 12:34 pm

... but, Efrem, AA Exec Platinums have an extremely poor domestic upgrade policy. NW Platinum Elites get unlimited and free - and on CO as well. AA requires the purchase or earning of upgrade stickers, except for full Y fares. One earns 4 500-mile upgrade stickers for each 10,000 *base* miles flown. So, to upgrade a round trip discount ticket on AA from my home base (RDU) to/from SEA via DFW would require me to fly 70,000 base miles to earn those stickers. Those 70,000 base miles flown on NW or CO almost qualify for Platinum Elite.

For comparison, DL Plats receive:

Full membership in Crown Room Club (normal fee, $400, $475 starting 1 Aug 01)

Unlimited domestic upgrades, confirmed in advance

6 PMUs (renamed SWU) in clear jacket

2 screaming neon baggage priority tages

2 luggage tags

clear jacket for all of above and booklet

The DL Plat status is greatly diminished with the end of unlimited SWUs, but funny how even top elite status is still secondary to route systems. I changed from NW to DL about 12 years ago. I certainly miss using NW in Asia.

Can someone explain why we get the Alaska AIr certificates?
Ever year I get them and every year I let my daughter use them as scrap paper.
Not sure why NW gives them out, I can't imagine they are used by most members.
And all it does to for me is tick me off and reminds me how out of touch NWA is.
Am I missing something.

Alaska gives out 4 of the NWA certificates for MVP Golds and 2 for MVP's. Same day confirmable upgrades. I wonder why Gold and Platinum elites get 8 on AS? Routes and distances probably.

I suggest that all recipients of the silver, gold or platinum packets- if they are displeased (as I am)- write a letter to NW and show your displeasure. Mine is going out tonight in the "platinum" envelope. If enough people make a fuss, maybe something will be done.

Great idea RKG!!!

I just pulled out a Gold Elite Priority Correspondence envelope and will send out MY own letter today.

SMessier Mar 2, 2001 1:21 pm

Having received my Gold Elite package today, I will also be sending out a letter.

My monthly statements (from my non elite days!) had better offers than this latest mailing. One card, one lugagge tag, a letter, booklet, and upgrade certs on AS that make the NW upgrades to Europe policy look generous (since "even" B fares qualify for mileage upgrades).

Very disappointing, especially when compared to other programs out there.

PG Mar 2, 2001 1:39 pm

These Alaksa upgrades are completely useless for me. I received 8 Alaska coupons a few months ago when I hit gold - they have expired now. I doubt if I will ever use the 8 I received now.

How about some international upgrade coupons on NW/KLM?
