A one foot hole in the wing - discovered in flight!

Cigarman, you'll like this:

From Best Fares - A Northwest Airlines flight bound for Portland (OR) returned to Minneapolis after a hole was discovered in its left wing. The incident occurred November 27. The hole was approximately one-foot-diameter and was discovered in-flight.

The plane, with 179 passengers aboard, made a safe landing at Minneapolis/St. Paul International where mechanics began an investigation. No immediate indication of fire or explosion was found.

I assume this flight was an old DC-9s?
I am not too crazy about those aircrafts. Also I would like to point out the A319s has looked alot older when I first broad them March of this year...

Don't know the type of plane, but I think NWA just flys 320s and 757s on the MSP-PDX route.

Even NW can not fit 179 people into a DC-9.
