NW Scoop.. Please read... Problem with VPESP...

Since the NW Participation thread starts out saying NW Scoop doesn't accept PM's and there is a small chance (very small?) that someone else is in my position I figured I needed to post this here.

First a little background. When I am not frequently traveling I am a POC fire fighter & MFR, which is a lot like volunteer, except we get money and have to meet percentages and the MFR licensensure is the first step below an EMT.

The following went into law in 2006 and basically mandates airlines create a way for civil servants to register with them confidentially so the airline knows who is a fire fighter, EMT or LEO on the plane if said person wants to.

http://feingold.senate.gov/listening...s/06/rock.html

Then I found this:

http://www.nwa.com/features/volprovision/index.html

The Voluntary Provisions of Emergency Service Program (VPESP) is a program that allows qualified law enforcement officers (LEO), firefighters, and medical personnel to identify themselves as available to provide voluntary services in the event of an in-flight emergency. If you are qualified and interested in participating in this program, please contact the Customer Service Agent at your departure gate.

So during a flight from FNT I went up to the GA expecting to be able to "register" for a program that would maybe add something next to my name on the manifest. I had printed out this page, showed the GA it and he looked it up, looked on another computer and said "All this does is get you an exit row seat if they are any open and their isn't, but thanks anyways". (This was before I was SE).

I would like to know if the GA missed anything or if in fact this is a program that I can register for so I don't have to talk to the GA about it every time I fly. Also seeing how talking to the GA may not be very confidential at all I am trying to figure out how my LEO counter parts would even want to participate in this program.

In a nut shell, is this really all this is, or have I missed something, or are there other things being planned that would allow someone to register for this and have their credentials appear on the manifest?

I really hope this isn't it, I will have little use for this program if it is, and having a "duty to act" I might find it difficult to do so in an emergency with out any sort of verification.

I forgot to add I did try to TTU this and all I got back was what the web page said, almost verbatim.

This is interesting.

I hope you get a response from someone.

Due to security regulations, we cannot address this issue in a public forum. I have added your username to my buddy list to allow you to PM me. Send me a message with your name, WorldPerks number and e-mail address so I can forward this issue to the appropriate area of NW.

Thanks.

Venting now...

If for some reason someone is in the same boat with this issue as me - I thought I would update it. Nothing has been resolved, so I am not going to worry about it and will simply do what I can do if the situation warrants it.

This isn't to be taken negatively towards the Scoopster at all, as a matter of fact I am very grateful with his/her assistance and willingness to help.. There just are different departments and I don't have the patience to TTU and be emailed back what the web pages says as I stated already happened.

On an OT topic, I am now having a problem with my name appearing on www.nwa.com and my wife's appearing on res.nwa.com, both with my WP# and both WorldPerks and NWA technical support saying "I don't know"... Tech support gets the prize though "I see the problem but we just reset pins and stuff like that.. Call WP back.."... wow..

When I try to complete the booking it shows my wife as the SE with my WP# and asks me for my own WP# for the "2nd passenger" LOL

Worldperks suggested I call Monday when "clerical" is around so I TTU'd :) I want to book award this weekend but it looks like that might not happen.

Sorry for the rant, I feel better though...

Never mind the second part of my post, I am a moron. :)

NW scoop,

I'm also interested in being added to the VPESP. I'm currently both a FF and RN (with trauma and flight background).

If you open your list up, I'll pm you my WP and contact info.

Clerical is the group that actually "does" things (IMO), yet are the one group that you can never talk to. To get to Clerical (and hence, get anything done that isn't "Level 1") requirese a TTU or to have a CSR put you on hold to forward your info to Clerical. Then again, this isn't much different from many larger businesses I deal with... there's a barrier between you (the customer), and the group that can make decisions and do things that aren't defined in the Level-1 operations manual.

I'd rather see this issue resolved with proper business process, then have people PM'ing one at a time. Then again... that's just me. :)
