Question Are WP award tickets valid for RT ticketing of over one year in length?

For example, can I (award) ticket an international roundtrip leaving September 1st 2007, setting a temporary return date of March 1st 2008, and later change the return date (for the requisite fee) to a final return date of October 1st 2008? (Work is taking me out of the country for over a year.)

Did a search and found info concerning paid/cancelled tickets, but not award tickets.

FYI, the WP Award pages online state:
Effective for tickets issued on or after November 1, 2006: for both wholly and partially unused award tickets, changes may be made for up to one year from the originally scheduled outbound flight.
But it's not clear to me whether this actually has any bearing on the situation. Perhaps someone could provide a little practical knowledge/experience on this matter? Thanks.

Max ticket validity is one year from date of issue, not date of first travel. Shouldn't matter if it's award or paid. The one-year rule has been in place at several US airlines for a long time.

Thanks for your reply, 3Cforme. I also concurrently inquired of TTU, but had found myself only further confused by their responses:

My first message: Are WP award tickets valid for RT ticketing of over one year in length? For example, can I ticket an international roundtrip leaving September 1st 2007, setting a temporary return date of March 1st 2008, and later change the return date (for a fee) to a final return date of October
1st 2008?

Thank you for contacting nwa.com Customer Service.

Yes it is available to book a return date then change it to a different
date.

My second message: Thank you for your prompt reply. I just wish to confirm that, on an award ticket, I can book a return date and then change it to a different date though that final return date is more than one year from the initial departure date.

Thank you for contacting nwa.com Customer Service.

You are only able to make reservations and change the dates of your
reservations up to 352 days in advance. Since you are only able to make
reservations 352 days in advance, if your desired date is farther out
than that, you will have to wait and change it within 352 days of that
date.

My third message: I'm sorry. Let me rephrase my question in the form of a hypothetical situation:

I make an WorldPerks award reservation with a departure date of
September 1st (2007) and a temporary return date of April 1st (2008).
On March 1st (2008) I change the date of my return to October 1st (2008),
exactly 13 months after my initial departure. Therefore the overall
length of my roundtrip award ticket is 13 months. Is this possible to
do with a WorldPerks award ticket?

Thank you for contacting nwa.com Customer Service.

Yes, you are able to make a change to the date on your Award Travel
Reservation even if it is a date that is a year from now. I have
provided information below on how to change your reservation online for
further assistance.

Did TTU just say it was OK, or have they just sidestepped my question three times in a row?

I have done just that. Booked award travel 11 months out, then changed the date for my return flight and wound up coming back 17 months later. I wonder if you can redeposit a portion of the miles... one-way travel?

No. Partially used award tickets can't be re-deposited. Otherwise it'd be a loophole I'd love to exploit.
