NW Award ticket on CO - Standby possible?

I am GE travelling on an award ticket from DEL-EWR, final destination is RIC, however due to award unavailability on EWR-RIC nonstop (CO), I was booked EWR-DTW-RIC.
Advise me on how to get on the non-stop flight. Also note that I will be collecting my baggage at EWR for customs and then drop off at the CO counter.

If this is on NW stock, yes you can try to stand by for the CO flight. (or vice versa)

No other carriers will take an NW/CO award ticket as there is no revenue associated with them.
