shocked about TTU response
Well,
to continue my story I sent in a TTU about my issues with FNT. To my absolute shock and near heart attack experience - -TTU wrote me back and gave me a 125 TCV AND 25,000 bonus miles.... has anyone heard of this before??? I was really really taken aback!!! I definately won't complain at all!!! |

A bit OT, but IMO if you live south of the US-23 construction, would not DTW be closer to a "home airport" than FNT? Those of us living in Genesee and adjacent counties would greatly appreciate your continued patronage down at DTW so as to not skew the UG percentages up here (FNT Bishop) by weighting FC down with your presence. ;)

Your argument doesn't make sense. People flying from FNT makes their connection via DTW to their destination. How does that impact your UG percentage?
Right now there is major construction on US 23 North of Ann Arbor and that's the route for some of us to FNT. DTW is just off of I94 which for a change has no construction !!! Bob H. |
It was quite some time ago, but I was scheduled to fly JAX-DTW-FNT. Got to DTW and my noonish FNT flight had been canceled and all others were booked/overbooked. I asked the agent to route me through MSP, which she did.
FNT is a station that I am happy NW didn't outsource the customer service agents. They've really gone above and beyond in 2 rather unusual situations for me in the last year. |
Years ago, I worked for Mesaba in FNT. This was during the Fokker F27 days (anybody remember those?) in the late eighties. These birds would break down all the time and FNT was usually an easy victim. If they had a broken bird in DTW, they would usually steal the plane for the DTW-FNT in order to protect Erie, Marquette or Dayton. We would get all the customers a $300 voucher and get them to DTW in a cab. I ended up going to Mesaba in MSP as an assistant dispatcher. I remember there was a dry-erase board in the dispatch office where need-to-know information was left for all dispatchers and it read in huge letter "DO NOT XLD FNT". Apparently, a customer got so fed up with all the cancellations that he ended up getting "The Flint Journal" involved and a couple of the local TV stations picked up on the story. Needless to say, the dispatch reliability for FNT was quite examplary, for a couple of months anyway ...
As far as the rental car, it makes sense for an airline to pay for one i.s.o. putting you up in the Westin for 2 days (which is just silly, because you could have walked home in 2 days :) ). However, as far as I know, NW never pays for a rental car because of liability reasons. What the agent should have done is tell you that NW will not pay for the rental car but offer you a TCV. I know this is what you ended up getting after you communicated with TTU but the agent should have taken care of this. |
So am I the only one who's home is MBS? That's fine by me :)

I love FNT's airport. Its really the only airport I know of where I can be shopping with my family at Kroger's about 4 miles from the airport 45 minutes prior to depature and then be like "well, let's think about heading down to the airport" :) (True story!). Unfortunately, I have been flying into DTW almost exclusively for the last year because of relatively high fares DCA-DTW-FNT compared to DCA-DTW.
I have really never had a problem at the airport, although my parents have had a problem when winter 06 one of their deicer trucks was broken so that deicing took forever and they misconnected in DTW. |
