MSP Winter Storm Warning: Part Deux
Well, it's only been a few days since the last "Big One" and they're already forecasting another "Big One" set to start sometime later Tomorrow (Wednesday afternoon/evening) into Friday. NWS has issued a Winter Storm Warning and is currently forecasting 8"-14", potentially heavier amounts locally. NWA has already issued a pre-emptive weather waiver:

We'll have to keep an eye on the temperatures associated with this storm. Paul Douglas on WCCO said there will be ice in southern MN and Wisconsin. Hopefully temps aloft stay below freezing so that this winter storm will be entirely snow. During the last storm there were temperatures above freezing not far off the ground.

That's a good point. The major reason for the delays at KMSP on Saturday was the formation of ice on the taxiways and aprons because the temperature was hovering around 31 °F - 32 °F.

That Nexrad image loop requires a username/password. I believe you can see roughly the same thing here:

Great -- In DFW area this evening (it's very nice -- what coat?).
On NW 414 DFW-MSP in the morning. Just like last week, home in time to shovel.

Here's the scoop:
Meteorology: Wednesday, 1-2 inches by 9pm, 3-5 inches by midnight. heavy snow Thursday, maybe a foot btw 9am and midnight Thursday. Thursday, crosswind concern, maybe operating on single runway. 1/4- 1/2 mile visibility. overflights possible to keep flights out of MSP. They will not continue to pump flights into MSP if operating on a single runway, but they don't want to CXL roundtrips out of MSP either and end up with stuck planes on the ground.

If MSP is not your final destination, now's a good time to book through another hub.
I was on the 2:58PM LAX-MSP flight Thursday and I just pushed back to the 00:10 LAX-DTW redeye Friday morning on the weather waiver. Lots of F availability, too.
Of course, it's touch and go in MSN, too, on Friday, but I feel better about my chances going through DTW.
Because I'm me I checked the KVS tool before changing. I'll change, but I don't want to ride in Y if I can help it, either
