EUA question

I have 8 legs this W/E and was EUA'ed on 6 of them at the 5 day window. The other 2 have not EUA'ed at the 3 day window eventhough the flts show only 1ABCD "TAKEN." I selected 5A on 320/319 for the two that didn't upgrade yet. I did this when the seats showed on the map as handicap. Did doing this somehow jepordize the chances of EUA? Should I reselect seats to another row? Any ideas? Thanks

Your selection of good coach seats makes zero difference. You will be upgraded on those empty F flights. If it were me, I would start the check in 24 hours prior to the flight, but only proceed as far as to get put on the F waitlist. The next day, if you view your itinerary online you will likely see yourself already in F, and can then select your optimal seats, and then do online check-in all the way through including printing out your boarding passes. If F is really that empty, you shouldn't have to wait till you get to the gate.

I have the same problem, 25 open F seats and EUA won't run for this flight. O.k., coach is full, but they won't sell all of them, if any. Whatever, I'd like to get 2D, but I have accepted that this will be a battlefield upgrade  .

NW likes to block off 1ABCD in general prior to flight by designating them as premium seating. Once you've EUA'd you can always snag those seats. But, on the flip side, there could already be pax in those seats.

MSP-JFK 1 pm on Friday. Started as P9F0, now P6F0, no EUAs for this Plat with a Gold on a single PNR. So what's the consensus? Do I OLCI at 24 hours; or keep rechecking before committing, hoping for R class availability? what's the consensus?

They are holding back the seats to sell as full fare P seats. My recommendation would be to OLCI the morning of the flight, occasionally there is a dump to R from P overnight prior to the flight and you don't want to miss your upgrade possibility by already being checked in for the flight.

Right, I guess the question is, are you sure that my overall chances of being upgraded are better by waiting for P->R to occur, rather than just having an early check in time and hoping that is the tiebreaker for a battlefield?

On a related note, does the auto-companion upgrade for Plat companions on a single PNR work for battlefields?

Not on the battlefield. I do it often and only once that I can remeber did a BF come through for both and that was an euipment change from a 757 to a DC10 MSP-LAS a couple years back. Usually I get called up to the podium and handed my BP. I always ask if the companion is possible and 99% of the time they do not do it.

The rules change a little when you get to BF. Its about the elite travelers at that point.

As I've stated several times in the EUA threads, I strongly believe that OLCI does not affect your WL priority. Since you missed the 6-day run you were placed on the WL then - not when NW sent you an email, not when you do OLCI, etc. That being said, I would keep doing OLCI since many (including me here) have snagged seats within the 24 hour window.

[KVS Availability Tool 2.4.1/Lite - Apollo: ITN/US-TNT]

MSP Minneapolis St Paul Int'l MN US [KMSP]
JFK New York John F Kennedy Int'l NY US [KJFK]
FRI 10 Nov 2006

NW 554 MSP 12:59 JFK 16:41 320 0 P7 F0 Y3 B3 M3 H2 Q1 V1 L0 T0 K0

at 15 hours, P7F0 is kind of lame (on a 320). I think it might be due to Y3 meaning coach is chock-full. Planning on the BF. I'm waiting to OLCI until 6 hours before the flight.

I reselected one of the 5A seats to 6A and was eua'ed 2 days out. ^ The other 5A seat was not EUA'ed at the 24hr go. I called NW Elite Svcs to inquire about this as the flt now showed only 3 seats left! Was told by agt that since I had selected handicap seating, I was not on W/L!!!  OLCI still did not offer F/C seat! Got to gate and was told all Elites had been EUA'ed and I was not on W/L  which was 6 people long. Gate agent had no idea why I as a PLT had not been upgraded or was not on list. She called a Supervisor who was at a nearby gate and he came over to speak to me. He also told me that since I had selected a Handicap seat 5A, I fell out of the EUA sequence, but he Upgraded me on the spot, apoligized and gave me 2 "International WBC Service Recovery Packs" :D :D Lesson learned: never select a handicap designated seat in the future ;)
