Putting two FF numbers in a PNR if nither are WP?

I have a friend who's gold on CO, but is in the process of moving over to delta. He has a flight on NW in two weeks and would like to earn delta miles, but hates to loose out on a upgrade. I know you can have to FF numbers in a NW reservation, but does it work with two non-WP numbers? In other words, can he put the CO number in and get an upgrade but credit miles to delta? Thanks!

Put in the CO number. Wait until he gets the upgrade, then at checkin switch in the DL number and make sure the DL number is on the BP. Shouldn't be a problem, except maybe for getting upgraded on the return.
