Stuck in MSP

I'm a Plat. on NW and stuck in MSP trying to get to MCI My 6:40 pm Friday flight was canceled because of weather. NW says all flights on Sat. are booked and the first flight out I can get is Sunday morning. I've checked the NW website-no availability. Orbitz-same thing. I've called the elite line and they say they have zip! There are 5 flights on Sat -all full Anyone have any suggestions that I haven't tried?

I was in the same situation last year after a Hurricane in Florida. Nothing available for several days out of Tampa.
Went to the airport the morning of the first day, got on standby and flew to Detroit on the first flight out.
Suggest you try the same.

Casey.

Standby is your best bet

It is very likely that many pax that are planning on going to the MSP airport Saturday morning for the first flight will be late or will postpone the trip.

You should definitely try and standby.

Good Luck!

Also, as a Plat., NW will pay for your hotel, even if the delay is weather related. But you need to ask. This is not in the listed benefits either.

My brother was in a similiar situation recently and made the flight standby because so many people were unprepared for the incredibally long lines.

Good luck.

Full flights often end up with some open seats in this situation. Some pax can't get to airport because driving is too difficult or inbound connecting flts get delayed or canceled.

I've seen it happen many times. Good luck.

When (ultimately) do you have to be in MCI? I personally think your best bet is to just get out of MSP! I was through there today around 11.00 am, what a mess.

Have you looked into connecting thorough DTW, MEM, or codeshare partners Continental or Delta, at least to get out of MSP, then do second leg on NWA.

MEM might be a good choice.

My thoughts exactly. Get on any flight you can to get out of MSP. Find ANY flight with availability and get on it and then connect from there. Try IAH, ATL, DFW, CLE, CVG, and of course MEM, DTW.

There will be many, many people that either re-arrange their plans or just flat cannot get to MSP so something should open up.

Fly standby.

And while you are waiting, if you like good soup, catch a cab to Eddington's in Minnetonka or Roseville (the closest location to MSP airport is Edina, but they are closed on Saturdays) and load up on some of the best soup you will ever have and unlimited breadsticks. Their website is: http://eddingtons.com

You will sleep soundly all the way to MCI. :D

Thanks to all on the Forum for the sage advice. Arrived at MSP at 5:30 this morning ...the entire terminal was packed at that hour...never have seen that many people there. Bottomline....was able to get on standby for thr 7:06 and as many of you noted, space opened up. Back in MCI looking a "sun vs. snow" Thanks for all your help!

You have four choices, really just three but I just like to gloat a little

1. Get on the train and spend your time and money at the Mall of America
2. Rent a car and drive to KC
3. Let NWA guide you, everthing wil be OK on Sunday
4. Stay at my place, I live 4 miles form the airport in Saint Paul and am in Lima (not Ohio) for a short vacation.

My wife arrived at 7am for a 9:20 flight, and since it was a rebook, she couldn't use the emachine to check in. She was directed to three different lines, and at the third one, the agent finally agreed she was in right line and checked her in. But - if the agent hadn't told her "the secret quick way thru security" she would have missed her flight! Thank goodness someone did!

Yesterday WAS a mess in MSP as the snow came down all day. Add to that the fact that systemwide load factor for the day was up around 89% (Spring Break, and Friday combined) and it just made things that much more a mess. Lots of full flights the rest of the month as we head into more areas going on/returning Spring Break and into Easter. Hopefully the snow is behind us.......

Can't wait for Spring...
