Agreed. :D
It’s just ironic to me how they belittled this route moreso than others… one would think that routes NW adds, especially significant ones like this, would be thoughout these days. Then again, what happened to MEM-MFE? Too bad NW isn’t restoring its ANC-NRT flights (the scheduled flights that operated 1-2x weekly in which JTB purchased hordes of seats). They could operate it with a 753 -- I wonder how many FlyerTalkers would opt to fly DTW/MSP-ANC-NRT on a 757! I certainly would, provided I got my upgrade on DTW-ANC!!

With that new 5th frequency between Detroit and Amsterdam, are they going to have two DC10's scheduled to work that route? The 45 minute scheduled turnaround seems awfully short, even if the plane comes in early and they can clean and service quickly...
Do they intend on having a DC 10 sitting around in AMS for 24 hours? |
They have kept "spare" DC-10 in AMS. In fact, when a DTW-bound A333 crapped out, they moved passengers onto the spare DC-10... and then the A333 sat in AMS for quite awhile.
But that's not what NW's doing here. The arriving flight from DTW will turn around and go elswhere. DC-10 Arrivals: 06:30AM, Minneapolis 06:45AM, Mumbai 07:05AM, Boston 09:15AM, Minneapolis 11:10AM, Memphis 12:15PM, Detroit 12:15PM, Minneapolis DC-10 Departures: 10:30AM, Mumbai 10:45AM, Minneapolis 01:00PM, Detroit 02:05PM, Minneapolis 02:10PM, Boston 02:30PM, Memphis 04:35PM, Minneapolis

NW's opening an A333 base at SEA, so SEA-AMS will be upgraded while BOS temporarily downgraded. Of course BOS is the only flight not requiring a relief pilot in both directions, so you can bet it will be upgraded ASAP.
