I dont know about that "maintenence" vs light load thing
I was flying from dtw-msp one morning, I was on a 320?0r a 9? but there was another flight leaving about 15 minutes after us to msp (757), our flight was "delayed" for mechanical, so everyone is freaking out but the G/A was like oh, there is plenty of room on the 757, so you are ALL going on that flight???? I went to him and said "****, not only do I not really have anywhere to be in MSP anytime soon, but I would rather wait and take an F/C upgrade (silver). He said, with a smile, 'no, I think I better put you on the 757' and that was that! you can read into that what you want! |

I'd really only complain if this kind of thing is frequently impacting your travel. Last summer, I had three mechanicals in two weeks (DTW-ORD, ATL, and PHL) and after the third one, I wrote a polite letter pointing out the discouraging trend and received 10,000 miles. I was happy :) I mean if it happens every now and then I figure it's just part of air travel but the frequency was upsetting enough for me to write in.

Passengers are being rebooked on the next flight at 6pm. What compensation should Gold Elite flyers expect? Two weeks ago, ATL-ONT, 10 p.m. departure, DL loads the plane at 10:30 because of late arriving equipment, pilot announces a mechanical, unload plane, wait for another plane and board -- two hours late at ONT. I'm not happy, but they got me home. Last night, MSP-ONT, 9:09 p.m. departure, NW announces a mechanical at 8:30 but that a new plane is arriving at 9 p.m. and will be turned around as quickly as possible. We start board about 9:10 and somehow are only 10 minutes late at the gate on arrival at ONT. Things happen, but I got home safely. tom |
