KLM coded Aer Lingus Flight
 

I'm flying ORD-DTW-AMS-DUB (I did this to try the A330) on a KLM ticket. The last leg is on Aer Lingus. Will I get mileage credit for this leg of the itinerary? On my way back I am doing DUB-AMS-ORD and our seats are in the middle section against a wall on the right side (DE) seats. Has anyone had experience with these seats? It seams a little strange.

This ticket was $372 and I gave myself a 9 hour layover to go to AMS and see Anne Frank's house and the Van Gough museum. I will also stop by Hard Rock and get myself a pin.

WorldPerks mileage? Of course not.

Even if purchased through NWA it must be NW coded for you to get miles on NW.

Quick sites in Amsterdam, does this make sense?

Here is an agenda I have worked out for our layover in AMS. I was wondering if it is feasible.

Arrive AMS 7:15am, clear customs and take train to Central Station, arriving 8:30am.

Walk to Anne Frank's house arrive 9:00am (when they open). Do the tour and leave around 10:30am (hopefully there will not be a wait at 9:0am on a Friday in Feb).

Walk to Van Gogh museaum stopping at the Hard Rock for a pin arriving at the museum at 11:30am.

Leave the museum at 1:00pm. Walk to the train station (stopping for something to pick up and eat while walking) arriving at 1:45pm.

Getting back to the ariport 2:15pm. Our flight is at 4:10pm to Dublin.

One other thing. Is there a KLM lounge by the Aer Lingus gates?

I also suggest a quick visit to the Rijksmuseum, if Van Gogh museum is busy. They currently are doing renovations and only a small section is open with representative works of arts. So, kind of get a big tour in a short period of time.

That sounds like a fun day in Amsterdam. One piece of advice: if your schedule starts to slip a bit, or if it's raining heavily, take the tram back from the museum. There's a tram stop right there, the routes are well-marked (most go to Centraal Station anyway), and you can buy your ticket on the tram.

The KLM lounge is upstairs. When you get to the end of the concourse, take the first stairs or elevator you see, and look for signs for airline lounges.

There is also some sort of "field office" of the Rijksmuseum at the airport which is nice to go to after you get back there. It is close to the lounges and is pretty visible, being a giant Glass box suspended 15 feet or so in the air.

I wonder why Aer Lingus hasn't become a WorldPerks/codeshare partner?? That'd be a nifty way to earn miles while crossing the Atlantic.

...cause they are already a oneworld alliance member. I wonder if I can get mileage on my AA account if my flight is coded KL?

Does anyone know the answer to Jiburi's question? I'm finding some decent fares to DUB.
Can you get NW miles on one part of the itinerary, then AA miles on the other part? Would you go to the GA in AMS and ask for the FF# to be changed to your AA AAdvantage AAccount? Or send in the BPs after flying?

Sounds pretty exhausting!
 

You have outlined a pretty good sightseeing itinerary for a few short hours in AMS! However, keep in mind that it can be pretty cold and wet in February!! You would be better off, IMHO, to buy a strip ticket for the trams when you arrive at the Central Station, and then use them for your travels through downtown. What looks like a short distance on the map is really quite a hike. And unless you have been there a few times before, EVERY canal looks the same and the probability of taking a wrong turn while walking is quite high! Also, I suspect that you will be pretty tired after the flight from Detroit. It is not quite long enough to get any meaningful amount of sleep, and especially in Economy Class where the noise and other interruptions can be frustrating. I often find that just after I have dozed off, an FA will wander down the aisle shouting "Duty Free, Duty Free" or even worse the seemingly nice person sitting behind you will decide they need to use the restroom and will use the back of YOUR seat as their own personal "assistant" to help them get up from their seat. I hope your stamina and supply of adrenaline will carry you through a pretty exhausting 30+ hours of traveling!!

Next time, you might consider doing the AMS visit on the return flight, taking a forced overnight (read that as "free stopover") in Amsterdam. If you arrive in AMS just after the flight to Chicago leaves at 10:30 am, you can have the whole rest of the day to explore the city. Get a cheap hotel for the night, sample some of the nightlife while you are at it, and then return to the airport after breakfast the next morning just in time to catch your flight back to the States. I will be doing exactly that in a few weeks on a return trip from Munich. I decided that even though I pass through Schiphol a dozen times or more each year, it has been too long since I have had the pleasure of a visit to Amsterdam. So on that trip in early February, I just said now is the time to do it!!!

One last thing: while you are in Dublin, I heartingly recommend a great Brew Pub and Restaurant called "Messrs. Maguire" that is very easy to find. It is right in the center of downtown, on the south bank of the river, a few steps east of Connolly Street. We liked it so much when we were there last March that we returned twice more: once for a late-night beer on the way back to our B&B and again on a Sunday afternoon for their Irish traditional Corned Beef and Cabbage and Potatoes, along with watching a Rugby game on TV, and lots more of their great beer. Prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is great too. Enjoy!!

I agree. A strippenkart at at Centraal Station would be a good investment, unless the weather is fine and you know how to get to where you're going. It's frustratingly easy to get lost in Amsterdam--although, since most everybody speaks excellent English, it's also easy to get un-lost.
