Comparing top-tier elite levels among airlines

For the fourth consecutive year I am Platinum with NW, and each year I seem to fly more and more. This year I am up to 104K flight miles, with over 90% on NW metal, the rest on CO.

Although I am mostly happy with NW, it makes sense to evaluate options. Has anyone compiled a list of the major benefits for the top-tier elites among UA, AA, DL, NW, and CO? I did a search but didn't find anything.

In particular, I'm interested in bonus mileage %, domestic upgrades, and perhaps most importantly, comp. international upgrades. Certainly I'll take other factors into account (such as mainline vs. regional jet to/from LAN and GRR) too. Also, most of my travel is in mid-level fare buckets, no paid WBC.

For NW, I know that PE requires 75K miles, provides 125% bonus mileage, unlimited domestic upgrades 5 d before departure, and no intl. upgrades. CO the same I believe. Thanks for any info.

You won't find generous elite offerings, IMHO, as on NW. Here are links to the various airlines' elite program websites that'll help you make the comparison:

United: http://www.united.com/page/middlepag...3,1159,00.html
American: http://www.aa.com/content/AAdvantage...tus/main.jhtml
Northwest: http://www.nwa.com/freqfly/elite/benefits.html
Continental: http://www.continental.com/onepass/e...ault.asp&SS=CR
Delta: http://www.delta.com/skymiles/about/...ance/index.jsp

FWIW, this seems more like a thread better suited for MileBuzz!.

Im leaving AA for NW and I live in Dallas. 100K in seat is way to much for me but 75 I can do. EXP is a good thing at AA but seems like american just wants to keep taking things away.

DL/AA/UA give 100% mileage bonuses. All three issue systemwide upgrade certificates to top tiers valid for international travel. DL and AA offer complimentary domestic upgrades on virtually any fare, while UA offers complimentary domestic upgrades only on full fares. DL offers complimentary CRC membership. UA/AA are the only U.S. carriers that offer international first class with true lie-flat seats.

Depends! If you fly international a bit (~ 4+), UA/AA is much better since you get system wide upgrades (SWU's) and it applies pretty much to all fares (except for S, T). Also, it is relatively easier to find international award tickets than NW.
