info on different plane types, etc.
There is a lot of discussion about 757s, CRJs, A320s, etc.,... searches on this topic not very successful. Are there threads or stickies or websites with details on the different planes that NW flies, number of F seats, etc? I ask because based on comments posted here, upgrade percentage appears to depend largely on time/day of flight, and type of plane flown. Thanks.

Seatguru is definitely the place to start. They have almost all the NW seat layouts (except for the 332's).
Remember that upgrade percentage depends on a TON of factors, none of which can be easily quantified. When folks around here talk about the "difficulty" of upgrades on routes like SFO-DTW, they are speaking based on what seems to be the general consensus of the board, but not on any hard data. Predicting upgrades is a very iffy game. The main area where plane type figures into the upgrade guessing game is with regional jets. CRJs and SF3's have no first, so your upgrade chances there are always 0%. :) |
Different preferences
I love reading about the different aircraft that airlines fly and, of course, NW's aircraft. With regard to upgrades, I associate upgrades with the aircraft since there is a casual correlation. For example, the DC9 is used on the lower volume routes and shorter feeder routes to the hubs; hence, I have had a high upgrade percentage when flying DC9s. My worst upgrade percentage has come with the A320 which has been used on the MSP-SFO route. Also, while I love to fly the 757, my upgrade percentage is lower as well.
And, of course, season is important. For example, I am flying to LAX next week from DTW and I fully expect to be parked in coach despite my GOLD status. Also, I am flying to FLL in January and that is probably going to be a jammed flight from Memphis to FLL. |
