$30,000 dollar seat upgrade

NW will be spending $30,000 to upgrade its business seat.
Seems like a lot but pay back can come quickly

I'd assume they are talking about the new WBC seat, which, in features, sorta pulls back to equal with othee airlines. I'm not terribly in love with it, and the IFE is brutally ugly compared to the system KLM is now using.

I saw the thread title and thought you spend $30,000 to upgrade into the next cabin. Whew, glad it isn't that much yet!

I did not have a problem with the IFE, although it seems stupid to play the same movies in each direction. My major beef with the new WBC seats is comfort. They are hard and narrow. Bring back the lounge chairs from the DC-10!!!

Arrow This is "old News" the New WBC seats have been around awhile

This is old news. All new A330-300, A300-200, and B747-400's (including existing ships in the fleet) are getting the "new" WBC seat.

Old news...not! I didn't know that the seats were $30,000 for each first class seat setup.

These Seats were Annonunced by NWA in June 2003

There was a lot of PR and a press release/A330-300 inspection of the new WBC seats during the summer of 2003 prior to the first A330-300 going into service.

I'm surprised you didn't notice the big PR campaign then.

Agree,

IFE and powered controls are nice, however, would take the old seats and old IFE as in the DC10's and 742s (and used to be in the 744) anyday in a heartbeat. Simply more comfortable for longer flights and sleeping. - H

WBC NWA New Seats~ Worth $30,000? Or not.

Hi all,

The WBC new seats have been around for a little while. I first experienced the new seat on a flight from DTW- AMS on an Air Bus 330 back in May '04. The seats are a dramatic improvement but for $30,000 you would think that they could do a lot more. The seats are nice and have nice amenities yet they still don't look like something worth $30,000. Interesting article!
