HR2F - a First Class Fare Basis?

I was doing a search on NW.com for seats in F for BWI-DAY this weekend (so I could view the F seat maps to find out if this lowly Silver will be upgraded on his flights on Saturday) and it brought up a fare with the fare basis of HR2F for first class seating - anyone ever heard of this? H fares are economy class seating - I didn't think that H-class was a Y-up type fare.

No need to look up the whole seat map. Just use an availability tool to get an idea of your EUA chances. It's much quicker that way.

True, I usually use ITN since it's always available, however I like looking at the seat maps too to see if 1A or 1D is taken, so I'm hitting 2 birds with one stone.

I've come across a few fares like this MSY-FL and MSY-ATL, though I think those are usually BR2F. Basically the same as the discounted F fares but refundable; I'm guessing these are on routes that compete with AirTran?

Also look at CO for discounted F class fares

I've seen these BR2F fares on routes like RDU-LAX for around $800. A word of advice if you plan on booking one - CO frequently matches these fares but they are D fares. The CO D fare gives not only get the 150% EQM but 150% banked miles as well. And if the routing goes through EWR to the west coast the CO transcon service is very nice - seafood appetizer, sundae, baked on board cookies, etc...

If it is HR2F, you will accrue mileage based on the H fare. It is essentially an H fare that comes with an automatic upgrade to F. These are on several routes to LAS and other leisure routes. You will not accrue EQM at 150% on H.

I just bought a BR2F for the holiday weekend (25th through 28th) but only on the return portion, the outbound was still in T class. It was $442 so not so bad, and I did online check-in and got the outbound upgraded immediately as well. This route was MKE - FLL which would definitely be competing with Air Tran but I can assure that Continental was not offering a competitive price in a premium cabin for either portion of this trip. Odd though that it really didn't advertise it as F, because I did a Y search and normally you see the "Connect First" or whatever, and this didn't even show F class until I clicked through and saw that it was, which sealed the deal on the purchase for me.

Resurrecting an old thread...
I have a BR2F fare for next monday MKE-DTW-MSY. MKE-DTW went immediately to F but DTW-MSY is still Y. MKE-DTW-MSY is only showing P3F0 for DTW-MSY, but DTW-MSY alone does show P3F3. Do I have to wait and hope for an EUA now, or do I have some kind of priority on an F seat and can call NW to have me upgraded on this?

I have had several "H" fares show up a "F" lately but you accrue EQM's at the "H" fare level. No bonus!

You will be ticketed using fare basis HR2F but from fare bucket F. Therefore, you will receive 150% EQM. I have many times on B, M and H fares like this.

Any news on when the K-up fares come out? ;)

There's another thread going on about this, but this isn't true. You get the COS bonus for what class you pay for, not what class you book into. B fares get the COS bonus regardless of whether they're an "UP" fare. There do exist M and H "UP" fares like this, but they don't earn the COS bonus, only the regular mileage, even though they book directly into F.

If the fare class is F, you will get the COS bonus. I have many, many times.

I have also seen MR2F. I have never seen HR2F.

Yes, if the fare class is Fxxxxxx, you will get the COS bonus. If the fare class is Mxxxxxx or Hxxxxxx, you will get booked directly into the first class cabin, but you won't receive the COS bonus. I've not received the bonus on these fares many, many times.
