Question FA Gossip: LAS-HNL on 753

Does anyone know if there is any credibility to NW starting a 757-300 service from LAS-HNL?

Posted by our friend, Vegas Agent:

"Officially announced today. SFO-HNL service will resume the same day. Rumor is LAS-HNL service will be initiated in January."

and...

"LAS-HNL service was set to go in Janurary 2005 but AQ announced non-stop service starting in September so it has been tabled...at least for the time-being."

didnt realize how much demand from hnl to las. omni has two nonstops, aloha is going nonstop, and hawaiian has their nonstop. plus, the aa/nw/ua connections through lax, that is a lot of demand

LAS is sometimes called Hawaii's 9th island. There are hotels that totally cater to the local. Whilst inside the building you'd have no idea you were in Vegas... except for the gambling.

The one and only time we've been in Las Vegas (last October), we had a nice chatty server from Maui. He explained that there's a really large native Hawaiian population in LAS, mostly working in the tourist industry of course - folks who literally can't afford to live on their own islands any more.

The cost of interisland travel has risen so high that charter packages to LAS from HNL are cheaper and you get comps.

Plus Hawaii has no legal gambling.

Doesn't NW own Worry-Free Vacations? It's most likely much cheaper to have Omni operate the flight for them, but the improved economics of the 753 and the ability to pick up more pax with scheduled service may have them considering the route.

Yes, they do but the Worry-Free Vacations program doesn't having anything to do with NWA WorldVacations, or scheduled NWA service.

Also note Worry-Free Vacations is dropping Hawaii (and thus Omni's 757 flight) in November.
