One step closer, from Newswire today:
Northwest Passes SkyTeam Audit Northwest has completed a major step in the process of joining SkyTeam, a readiness audit, which was conducted Aug. 23 and 24. One of the requirements for successful entry into SkyTeam is the review, or audit, of delivery of the full range of SkyTeam customer benefits. This fulfillment process is focused on integration of the SkyTeam brand with Northwest's current policies and practices involving the WorldPerks Frequent Flyer Program, WorldClubs, airport, reservations and inflight procedures and technical enhancements to deliver the SkyTeam customer benefits. SkyTeam sent a seven-member team representing five of the current SkyTeam airlines to evaluate Northwest before joining the alliance. Northwest expects to receive the complete audit results next week. |

Actually, AM is not bad at all, at least in J. I had the opportunity to fly them about 3 years ago from LAX-MEX and I was impressed with their catering. (it seems that this is one of their strongest points). Service ranged from average to outstanding. I've heard that they truly go out of their way on their transatlantic service MEX-CDG/MAD and according to the forum at airliners.net, AM will be acquiring some 777's to operate this route in the near future.

Was in the SFO P-Club this morning and saw one of the agents behind the desk with a binder labeled "Skyteam". Just one more sign it's almost here, although it would be nice to have an announcement with some specifics already.

Back in the SFO club again tonight and I was talking to the counter agent. She had the Skyteam book out and was reviewing the many different cards that on September 15th, at least for the moment, will qualify for lounge access if on an international itinerary.

SkyTeam Pins
Just flew back from BUD-FRA-DTW-CMH. One of flight attendants was wearing a SkyTeam badge on the flight from FRA to DTW. Asked her when she started wearing it. She said "yesterday" (Sep 4). It's really getting there. Very excited.

NWA to announce SkyTeam alliance The Washington Post September 12, 2004 NWTR0912 Northwest, Continental and KLM Royal Dutch airlines will announce Monday that after two years of negotiations, they've become part of the SkyTeam alliance. That means, among other things, that frequent-flier miles earned on any of the three carriers can be redeemed for flights on the other alliance carriers. The airlines are expected to provide details about implementation on Monday. Current SkyTeam members are Delta, AeroMexico, Air France, Alitalia, Czech Airlines and Korean Air. China Southern Airlines also has entered the process to become a SkyTeamer. Aeroflot, Russia's state airline expects approval sometime next year. Airlines hope to benefit from such alliances by attracting new customers and expanding their flight options. For consumers, such alliances open more possibilities for using frequent-flier miles and streamline ticket purchases by allowing travelers to buy one ticket while flying more than one airline on connecting flights. SkyTeam alliance members operate more than 13,000 flights a day to more than 600 airports. The alliance also enables members of one carrier's airport club to have reciprocal privileges at the lounges of other members |
