The airlines are pretty strict about the same-day thing, but I've stood by for earlier flights many, many times: with family in MSP and friends near DTW, I kill multiple birds with one stone on my transcons. Plus, now with the Mpls light rail, I can get to my mom's house a little quicker. ;) Will try the light rail for the first time in 24 hours!! :D Only once has an agent mentioned the 4 hour rule--- most don't really pay attention. In the past I've also had agents offer to put me on the standby list from MSP to my final destination, but I decline and tell them I want to support the MN economy at the Mall of America. :p As for the light rail, I'm glad that my tax money is benefiting everyone else but the people of MN. That thing has been the biggest waste of our dollar. We pay for it, so outside travelers can use. Blah! :td: |
What about the reverse of this problem --
Make the first leg of your connection, miss the second leg (say, MSP - MCO). Can you then try to standby on later MSP-MCO flights that same day? Or will they consider you to have missed your flight, and you have to buy a full-fare one way MSP-MCO? What if you tell them you were sick in the bathroom or something when last call came on your scheduled flight? And, people miss connections all the time and get rebooked. Has anyone ever tried this? What happens? |
