azj - your post may be intrepreted that the new skycaps will be CSAs and be able to perform any function of a CSA...that is wrong and would clearly violate the current contract. They will be able to check luggage and call for wheelchair assistance and the like, but little more. When the bad weather days roll around or there are major delays or cancellations for whatever reason, there will be fewer agents to handle them, no doubt and the customers may suffer the consequences, we shall see. I suspect there will be very few CSAs taking the skycap positions...most will likely elect to leave the company (take layoff) or bump into another position for which they can hold.

AZJ Ouch.........I’m glad you did not call me an idiot. :) (Only my wife is allowed to do that.) After an exhaustive 3 min. of intense research, it looks like you are correct. The skycaps that NW are replacing the CSA'S with are NW employees. I humbly stand corrected. I guess that is great news for the CSA’s, at least they will be replaced by NW personnel. It kind of reminds me of a friend in college years ago that got caught cheating on his fiancée. When she confronted him, his response was “Well, at least she was really good looking and not ugly!” I am sure that the laid off CSA’s who are being replaced by kiosks and lower paid skycaps will feel about the same way as his fiancée. |
I have also witnessed folks fumbling around at the Kiosk's. I have just resigned myself to checking in on line, and if a Kiosk is available when I pass by the counter I will simply reprint my boarding pass. (I hate the big paper)
I will also say that when I have experienced delays/cancellations I can at least call the Platinum line to rebook and avoid the crowd, which will be worse in the future, with these changes. This may change in the future if the agent on the phone can not EUA me on my new flight. I guess I am just a sucker who looks for the path of least resistance and provides the easiest way to my seat. |
