First Offered During checkin Process - On Award

I did a search but could not find anything. I am flying on an award ticket to Jamaica and during the checkin process it asks if I would like an efirst upgrade if available. $75 a pop, with taxes. I go for it and now in an assigned FC seat. Not elite. Cool? Is this normal?

Show me the money

Your $75 is as green as the next guys, whether you were on an award tix or not. At that point all the elites had been upgraded and there was still space up front, so paid upgrades were on a first to check-in, first offered basis.

I am not Elite on NW, but Silver on DL, actually on a DL award ticket. I was going to take my chances and hope for an upgrade at the gate, but figured my "green" was a sure bet vs. a maybe. It usually is against my better judgement to spend that kind of money for a simple 3 hr flight, but decided to go for it.

As a DL elite the gate agent isn't suppose to upgrade you....as for the green upgrades-nwa offers this to the general public

On nwa.com it say's the following...

Select Y, B, M, H, and Q class fares must be purchased to qualify for an E-First upgrade. To determine booking class, visit http://www.nwa.com/freqfly/farebasis.shtml or ask your travel agent. Upgrade prices include tax. E-First must be purchased at the time of check-in and paid for with a major credit card. E-First terms and conditions are subject to change without notice. Other restrictions may apply.

Do you think he terms and conditions have changed and this is available to anybody now?

I've been offered E-first upgrades at check-in on V and T class fares a few times in the last few months.

Yes

Yes, this flight was on NW, using DL award miles, but I did have my NW number in the reservation, though not Elite. It was also offered on return flight, but I opted not to bother. Between marginal 1st class service, no WALL between first and coach and no IFE first on NW is no big deal.
