Hello,

I have a single booking between HKG and JFK with Finnair: HKG-HEL-JFK.

My question is whether I have to go through immigration in Finland or if I just stay in the international transit area going from one gate to another.

It's a non-schengen to non-schengen so can stay in that area, no need to go through immigration.

You can stay in non-Schengen airside for sure, but given that AY100 from HKG is scheduled for 5:35 AM arrival and AY15 to JFK has scheduled departure time of 5:15 PM that is quite long time to hang around there...
