And of course a few US states with all the expected characteristics.

The economy is tanking because of the disease, not the actions to stop it.
There's no way of knowing for sure, but the authorities will soon start mass testing, so then we'll get a clearer picture of the real situation. Within a few weeks, they'll be able to test 100,000 per week. But a high figure would make sense due to the fact that there are numerous homes for the elderly which have been on lockdown for some time, but where the residents were infected in spite of the fact that only asymptomatic staff were allowed to enter.

According to previous calculations, the mortality rate could end up anywhere between 0.05-1%. But you have to remember that it takes a few weeks from infection to death. Therefore, it's entirely possible that 500,000 people could be infected today, and "only" 400 dead so far.

There are several other countries that are not on complete lockdown, such as Singapore, which started preparing for a pandemic already in January.

The Swedish economy is tanking because people all over the world are losing faith in the future. The Swedish economy is heavily export dependant, with up to 50% of GDP created by exports. So, when the world loses its hopes for a good future, the Swedish economy is going south.

Southern Sweden has turned into an island

DK won't let us cross the border, MMX has two flights tomorrow, both to Romania. Good thing the idiot king told us not to travel during Easter. That advice is almost as valuable as telling people not to swim to Jupiter.

There are loads of ways to travel. Rail, car, etc to neighbouring countries. Or internally in you own country.

But, the right choice now is to stay put. Have an Easter at home.

For myself, I always travel every Easter. This year I was really looking forward to a trip to a cabin in northern Norway, which is ready for use. I can still go. Train, car or SAS flight to Bod.

I will of course do the sensible thing and stay at home.

Good for you. I wasn't planning on going anywhere. Not as smug as you, apparently, but maybe just as righteous. My only point was that we are cut off from the outside world.

I think the only two major economies not in a shut down (apart from China slowly emerging) are Korea (who took a massive test and contain exercise from very early) and Japan (who is taking massive heat for not being in lock down, and it is (again) rumored that it will be announced today)

The Swedish currency is sinking to lows against the US Dollar and been headed toward levels not seen since around 2001.

This royal Swedish dude has never been the sharpest tool in the toolbox, and maybe that's a good thing since his eyes have seemed to be more about piercing into the likes of his daughter-in-law in various states of undress around the world than to get into understanding the nitty-gritty of contemporary policy. But he's not entirely clueless about advising against travel. I would note than many Swedes are still planning on traveling -- at least domestically -- during Easter/Easter school break days, and that Swedish grandparent types are more likely to hear a TV speech from their king than they are to listen to the latest talk from the public health authorities.

Yesterday and today, I am even hearing of calls from Swedish grandparent types asking when their adult children and grandchildren are coming over to the grandparents for Easter whatever. Or things like daycare teachers receiving notices about out-of-town grandparents picking up the grandchildren from the day cares around various parts of Sweden.

Those Romania-bound flights from MMX are probably to repatriate a combination of people, including a collection of transients whose life in Sweden is built around begging or other activities that seem to get a bunch of people riled up.

Denmark lets some people from Sweden to cross the border into Denmark, and not all of the border-crossers are Danish. I can't tell if Denmark is getting more relaxed or harsher when crossing from Sweden into Denmark, but traffic seemed to be declining and declining until it seemed to sort of pick up a little bit again.

Today's lunch chatter: "we have a [deal] closing in Stockholm later this week or next week, what's the easiest way to get there?" I think this was for going from Copenhagen/Malmo and/or maybe Gothenburg. Digital signatures, anyone?

My PM box will be open at this time tomorrow.

Well, at least for those of us who, like me, get paid in USD something positive comes out of all of this. But I would rather like to be sure having a job in 6 months from now, instead of a 10:1 exchange rate

I am expecting something closer to 11:1 to be a consequence of this situation. I don't expect a depreciating currency to do a whole lot of good for jobs or anything else in Sweden or the surrounding area at this time, but it may make for some good buying opportunities in Sweden once the 5-15% hit to GDP has translated into a brutal knee-capping of the market for existing houses and used vehicles.

What?! Holy crap - Yes Oxie is part of Malmo stad. Other parents told me that they got notices a few weeks ago that their kids' swimming classes were cancelled. I thought Malmo stad made the decision, apparently it's another YMMV situation.

The problem is there are still idiots around where I live selling Easter brunch, Easter staycation in a hotel. Someone in Norrland is trying to tell people not to come because some hotels in the mountains are still open and the whole town has one VC and 3 ambulances and the nearest hospital is 3 hours away. Gotland will be invaded by Stockholmers because Gotland ferry is still running and doesn't seem to have restrictions. You can go to DK if you are Danish nationals, or foreigners flying home from Kastrup to go back.

I wish someone protest in Sweden - it's Monday so let's see the figures in a hour time to see if the weekend effect kicked in (somehow the weekend figures got delayed so there's a higher jump on Mondays). The Swedish healthcare is so overburdened now and now SR reported that people are being turned away from ICU and SVT reported that there's not enough of an anesthetic medicine that they need to put people on ventilators.

If those grandparents listened to AT in January and fixed their minds on Covid-19 based on the statements AT made in January, why would they be scared of anything? It's just a mild flu. A lot of people don't follow the news and the statements from AT changed so much since. Some people don't try to find out why there are so many people died and some just don't care, some non ethnic Swedes here I saw in various "expats" groups were more patriotic and defended AT & Co. and addressed them as "great leaders". These people won't change their mind even if they are on a ventilator, they will still blame the others for whatever.

I confirmed that they were open for classes yesterday, even as participation was apparently down substantially. Parking ticket collection in Malmo seems to go on as usual -- or more so -- at schools and facilities where school kids gather for classes or whatever else, even on weekends.

Get familiar with the phrase: "more loyal than the king".
