Average processing time for Iceland tax refund
For once I paid attention to the tax refund rules in Iceland and so instead of parcelling out my souvenir purchases waited and bought a number of items at the same time to meet the min. 6,000 ISK to receive a tax refund.
At KEF I was quite early so lined up and submitted my completed form with the store receipt and selected a refund back to the CC used for the purchases but more than a month later still have yet to see the refund. I suppose it would've been easier in one way to take a cash refund but thought I'd lose some on the currency exchange when I returned home and traded ISK back into CAD. While it isn't a large amount I thought I'd see if other had some input on the refund processing time if they selected the CC option. |
Mine took almost exactly a month

I originally wanted tax refund in cash (ISK) at airport, but the agent said there will be a processing fee even for ISK cash.
didn't ask what the fee was, did CC refund... does anyone know the fee? |

Thanks for the update. More data points is always better than fewer!

just got my refund from 11/21 on 12/30
about 5 weeks on my fx-free visa, shows up as "PREMIERTAXFREEISK2600. RATE 0.008279 " Business Expenses: Business Miscellaneous visa.com says rate should be 0.0088xx... so someone took a 6% cut... (on this card, the posting date FX rate matches visa.com's rate for transactions during my trip. need actual statement to tell whether I got DCC'd, but from the description, sounds like I got DCC'd) |

4.3 I want to choose credit card as preferable refund method. In which currency will I receive my refund? Global Blue supports these credit cards – Mastercard, Visa, Diners, Amex, JCB, CUP. If you want to receive your refund to Mastercard, Visa, and Diners, your credit card will be credited in the currency, in which credit card is issued. If you want to receive your refund to JCB and CUP, your credit card account will be credited in your local currency. In case of AMEX credit card, it will be credited in British Pounds (GBP). AMEX will make conversion to the currency in which your credit card is issued. For non - cash refunds (bank account / credit card / bank cheque) in a currency different than the currency in which the Tax Free Form is issued, the current Global Blue ”we sell” rate (based on the “we sell” rate of a recognized European Retail Bank) plus 3 to 5 %, will be applied for the currency conversion. http://www.globalblue.com/customer-s...shopping-faqs/ |
