I have a quick question for the JFK experts.

I have to visit one of the JFK administration buildings to take some kind of security course next week. The building is located on the right as you drive into the airport from the Van Wyck, in the vicinity of the old temporary T8/9 remote parking lot during the garage construction. Basically, I need to get to that bunch of nondescript buildings that are off to your right after the turnoff for long term, but before the roadway splits to take you to the specific terminals.

Now, the directions say to drive in and take the next exit after long term parking. But I was planning on flying in for this training. The nearest AirTrain station seems to be T1, but I doubt that there is pedestrian access between the central terminal area and the roadway leading to the Van Wyck.

I know I could get in a cab to do a circuitous route around the airport to deliver me to the administration building, but how would I get BACK to the terminals/AirTrain afterwards?

Alternatively, I could take the AirTrain down to the Federal Circle, rent a car for the day, drive it across the highway to the administration building, then return it and get back on the AirTrain. Seems like a lot of hassle and expense.

This is ridiculous! There has got to be another way of getting to these buildings without a car! A shuttle, a bus, something! Certainly not all of the employees in these buildings drive to work.

I think it is crazy that airports are so unfriendly for pedestrians.

Anyway, I would very much appreciate any suggestions. Thanks in advance!

Have you tried calling JFK airport information? They might have an easy solution. Good luck.

My guess would be that both the Q10 and B15 buses would get close to where you want to go. Those buses begin and end their routes at Terminal 4, and do not serve any of the other terminals, so you would have to take the AirTrain to get between your terminal and Terminal 4. (No charge for riding AirTrain from one terminal to another.)

You can find a Queens bus map and timetables at www.mta.info. When searching for the timetables, which should show a more detailed map of each bus' route, be aware that the Q10 bus is operated by MTA bus; the B15 is operated by NYC Transit.
