JFK T8 minimum transit time
Hi
Can someone advice me about the minimum International to Domestic connection in T8 of 2.5 hours. Haven’t done transit at the new T8 after AA/BA have merged. We are travelling London to JFK on BA and connecting to the AA Transcon service to LAX- all in business class. We had 4 hours transit but due to a cancellation of BA flight, it is now down to 2.5 hours. Aware that we have to go through immigration, pick up luggage, drop it off, clear security and then go to gate. Any advice if this ok? |

You should be fine. If your flight from London arrives late and you end up with less than two hours to connect, an agent will meet you on the jet bridge and provide you with an orange Express Connection pass, which should speed you through immigration, customs and TSA security. The only thing that can't be expedited is your checked bags to the luggage carousels. Should you miss your connection, American has nine daily non-stop flights from JFK to LAX (and an additional four code shared JetBlue flights), so you should be protected on a later flight.

All worked out fine.
Our BA flight arrived early, passport/ Immigration was a breeze under 10 minutes, bags came out 20 minutes after that. Easy drop off in baggage area to AA. They wouldn’t let me thorough priority security since apparently it was only for TSA pre, even though the board says I was eligible. So that took an extra 25 minutes. So all in all less than one hour from landing to sitting and drinking wine in the Greenwich lounge. Thanks for all your help. |
Similar question - I have a flight landing at JFK 9:31pm and connecting to another AA flight to LHR at 11p. I noticed the flight has been delayed quite a bit recently. Realistically, if the plane landed say at 10:15p would I still be able to run and make the 11p flight?

Don't forget time to get off the plan. "Landing" at 10:15pm means at the gate probably not until 10:30pm at the earliest, then 5-10 minutes to deplane depending on where you're sitting. I think if the plane officially "arrives" at 10:30pm then there's a good chance AA will offload you and accommodate standby/non-rev pax, and it doesn't matter how quickly you get to the departure gate.

Even granting deplane at 1030pm, in what universe will AA offload the passenger when the connection has a 11pm scheduled departure time? Boarding usually ends 15 minutes prior.

Domestic to int'l in 1h30 should be fine, you won't need to go through security or immigration. The chart posted above lists 1h15 as the minimum. Granted, AA104 is the second to last flight to LHR, with the BA one leaving 15 minutes later.

Sorry to drag this back up, but my direct flight home from Nashville next month has been cancelled, and I’ve been rebooked on BNA-JFK-LHR with a 1hr 25 connection. Will be travelling with luggage and have only previously done HBO when transferring at JFK.
Both flights are T8 - do I still have to collect and drop off luggage, then do security again? If so, 1hr 25 seems awfully tight, especially as I’m travelling with my dad who’s not the fastest mover these days, and doesn’t have TSA Pre. If luggage is tagged through, should be ok - although any delays will obviously eat in to that |
