Manhattan hotel with skyline view

Looking for advise on a Manhattan hotel:
Hotel with a skyline view from the room
Modern and clean
Midtown location.
Max 400 USD per night including the stupid fees

Spent several hour online and couldn't find one.
Recommendations anyone?

Rates vary widely by date. $399 today could be $799 on your dates.

Any particular views you want? Residence Inn Central Park is the "highest" hotel in NYC that I am familiar with, so there should be stunning views from their higher floors

"Skyline" leaves a lot of room for interpretation. (As do "modern and clean" and "midtown" .)

These three are all open and have views of either the Chrysler or Empire State Building.
  • Sofitel New York
  • Millenium Hilton UN
  • Hampton Inn 35th Street

And, if the OP really wants a Manhattan skyline view, the New Jersey side of the Hudson has a spectacular one.

For a cheap skyline view, the upper floors of the Crowne Plaza Times Sq have excellent views. But it is otherwise not a great hotel. The upper floors of the IC Times Sq are about the same and it is a pretty good hotel. I've been in several other cheaper hotels with good views, like one of the Hampton Inns, Four Points, etc.

Isn't the Residence Inn Central Park closed and been closed throughout the pandemic? Was that one of the hotels that was housing homeless people?

As are the views from Brooklyn and Long Island City.

If you really want a great skyline view, I'd look at One Hotel Brooklyn Bridge. I'm clueless on rates.

Tons of hotels were used/are being used to house the homeless. I could not find any reference to the Residence Inn in news articles.

139 of New York City's 700 hotels are being used by the city to house homeless people who they removed from shelters to avoid COVID-19 outbreaks. The Lucerne, Belnord and Belleclaire on the Upper West Side and the Rixby, SpringHill Suites, DoubleTree, Best Western and Hampton Inn in the Garment District are among them.

That is low as the City is has the COVID Hotel Program for those people that are positive for Covid-19 and can not socially distance at home and/or you are negative for Covid but live with someone who is positive. Free program includes food, linens and local calls.

Don't be surprised if your "skyline view" is through two windows of the building immediately adjacent to you.
