Elevators from street level WTC to PATH
I am planning to go to EWR at 3PM. My plan is to take a cab to WTC, take the Path to Newark and then cab to EWR. My problem is that I don't know how to take elevators from street level at WTC down to Path. I know there isn't one direct elevator and there will be escalators I have to take as well. Can someone tell me which street entrance I should get in at WTC and how to get myself down to Path level without stairs? Is this even possible? I will have 2 suitcases with me and I am unable to carry them down the stairs at one time. I was thinking of a car service but I don't want to get stuck in mid afternoon traffic.

IIRC, there are four elevators in total to get from the streel level to the PATH platforms.
Elevator 1 - There are street level elevators at the Church Street (East) and Greenwich Street (West) levels of the WTC Transit Hub/Oculus. You take this elevator down to the mezzanine level. Elevator 2 - Directly adjacent to the Church Street elevator exit should be a second elevator to go down to the main floor level (where the Apple Store is). I think the Greenwich Street side elevator would be by the 1 Train Subway station near the Apple Store. Elevator 3 - This one is a little hard to find. If you come in from Church Street, the elevator is on the LEFT side of the main floor; the Apple Store will be on your right. There's a wide flight of stairs leading down from the main floor to the PATH entrance turnstyles. If you bear to the far left, there is a walkway that dead ends at the elevator to take you down to the PATH entrance level. Elevator 4 - This one will be after you go through the turnstyles (look for the ADA ones if you have luggage; they are easier to get through). There's elevators for the platforms normally used for the Hoboken Trains and another set for the platforms used by the Newark ones. If you use the LEFT Elevator 3, they will be pretty much in front of you when you hit the turnstyles. Notes - I hardly use the Vesey Street entrance these days and I know there's no continuous escalator service down to the main floor level from that side. I know there is continuous escalators on the Church Street side next to the elevators. There's no escalator or ADA ramps from the main floor to the PATH entrance level - I normally drag my bags down the stairs instead of taking the elevator. There are escalators down to the platform level but sometimes they run one-way during rush hours (I haven't transited PATH since COVID). Good Luck! |

Surely there will be signs with the wheelchair icon pointing the (accessible) way to the trains? (At least once you find the first elevator from the street).
But regardless, this sounds like a major hassle. Taxi-PATH-Taxi? I'd definitely just take the car service I doubt it will take all that much longer departing at 3pm. |
Here are my 2 cents.
1. If OP has to return EWR, why not simply check the baggage (I assume OP has a connecting flight)? 2. Why not NWK-WTC PATH RT instead? I can absolutely guarantee that PATH is the fastest way to WTC, providing PATH is fully operational. And it is also the cheapest option. 3. Taxi works between NWK and EWR. But why not an extra train ticket instead (NWK is the next northbound stop of EWR). |

And don't get me started on the white marble floors that stain, the hard-to-clean, white beams that collect dirt, the roof that leaks, the exorbitant cost for a (relatively) lightly used subway station, etc. |
FlyinHawaiian I am going to scout out the Elevators 1 and 2 and car drop off access on Church St.
garykung I am going one way from lower Manhattan to EWR. Reason for cabbing from NWK to EWR is less walking/dragging my bags, one carryon and one 25". I am in my late 60's and weigh less than 100lbs so this may be a problem just for me. Petdog Thanks for the map. ijgordon Yes, I may just take a car service. Time is what we retirees have, including sitting in traffic. ;) |

But why PATH when NJ Transit is available to go all the way to EWR? To me, the difficulty going to NY Penn is about the same as WTC for you. |
Penn Station isn't exactly convenient to "lower Manhattan" but in a taxi it's probably still not more than 15-20 minutes. But that's probably also close to $20 plus $15 (or is it more now)? for NJ Transit to the airport, so at that point, may as well just take a car all the way.
