Some companies need to get with the program and update their guidance to employees.

Still, a lot of Covid Test vans are around by subway stations in outer boroughs and you can trip over them in buiness districts though not long lines at them.

Moderator Note

Hi all - if it wasn't obvious, I got a bit burned out on updates, especially after things started calming down last fall. Of course, now we have been thru the Omicron surge as well. If there are any policies, NYC/NYS government updates, etc. that you think should be added to the Wikipost or further clarified here in the sticky thread, please don't hesitate to post. Thanks to everyone and keep well!

Let's please keep this thread on topic, focusing on NYC and NYS policies and updates. Please reserve general discussions of COVID and the pandemic for the appropriate forums.

Not sure where to post this, but it is NY specific. Trying to figure out if International Visitors are exempt from the 5 year old Vaccination rule that was recently enacted?
Most countries, especially in Europe, do not vaccinate children under the age of 12.

Want to take my kids to a few games at Madison Square Garden next month, however it states all childen over 5 must be vaccinated.

Edited to add: https://www.nycgo.com/coronavirus-in...-for-travelers
This is confusing to say the least:
"New Yorkers and visitors age 12 and older are required to show proof of vaccination to participate in indoor activities at New York City restaurants and bars, fitness gyms, and entertainment and recreational settings including movie theaters, music or concert venues, casinos, botanical gardens, commercial event and party venues, museums and galleries, aquariums, zoos, professional sports arenas and indoor stadiums, convention centers and exhibition halls, performing arts theaters, bowling alleys, arcades, indoor play areas, pool and billiard halls, and other recreational games. Proof of vaccination is also required for employees at these establishments.

Those ages 5 and older must present proof of two vaccine doses, except for those who received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine."
What do they mean here?

And to confuse further, this from MSG.com:
"All guests age 5 and older will need to provide proof they have received eithertwo doses of a two-shot COVID-19 vaccination, or one dose of a single-shot vaccine. Fully vaccinated guests are not required to wear a mask. Please note that full COVID-19 vaccination means the day of your event is at least 14 days after your final vaccine dose. Everyone else is required to wear a mask while in the venue, except while actively eating or drinking."

The three vaccines available in the US are Pfizer, Moderna, and J&J. Pfizer and Moderna are both two-shot vaccines (you're not considered "fully vaccinated" until 14 days after the second shot), while J&J is a one-shot vaccine (you're fully vaxxed 14 days after the single shot). For kids it's simpler as Pfizer is the only vaccine available for kids under 16. Of course it gets more complicated now that many people have gotten boosters, and I think some events may require boosters for those whose last shot was more than X months ago.

I don't know if MSG will make an exception for kids 5-11 who are from countries where the vaccines aren't widely available for that age group, but you might try calling them. I haven't been to an event at MSG, but I've been to a few theater events and they've been pretty carefully checking vax cards (even for kids). And most folks I know wouldn't want to bring unvaccinated kids into a giant indoor arena with thousands of unmasked patrons right now.

Latest NYC Masking Update

March 7th update to NYC Masking / Vaccination Requirements:

From he NYC Office of Nightlife

Starting, Monday, March 7:
  • Key to NYC rules will be suspended. Indoor venues, including restaurants, fitness facilities, and entertainment spaces will no longer be required to check for proof of vaccination before customers enter. Businesses previously covered by Key to NYC rules will still have the flexibility to require proof of vaccination or masking indoors if they choose.
  • Masks will no longer be required on public school grounds for kindergarten to 12th grade students. While these public school children will be able to remove their masks, if they so choose, schools will continue to maintain strict COVID-19 protocols, including increased ventilation, a daily screener to ensure those with symptoms do not come to school, and test kit distribution.Masks will continue to be required for all settings with children under 5 years of age (where none of the population is yet eligible for the vaccine), including programs contracted by the New York City Department of Education with 3- and 4-year-old children as well as 3K and 4K classrooms in district schools.

All other COVID-19 mandates will remain in effect. Under the rules, employees will still be required to be vaccinated unless they have received a reasonable accommodation from their employer. For complete information, please visit www.nyc.gov/vaxtowork.

It's been over a year since anyone posted to this thread, so it seems appropriate to unstick it now. Thank you to all who have contributed information and insights over the last 3 years.
