Time Out Market in DUMBO neighborhood in Brooklyn

My wife and I 'stumbled' upon this earlier today. https://www.timeoutmarket.com/newyork/

A couple of sit down restaurants + loads of upscale food 'stalls'. The market overlooks the East River, Brooklyn and Manhattan bridges, and lower Manhattan. Great views during the day. I'm guessing spectacular views at night. Wonderful neighborhood to take a stroll. It's adjacent to Brooklyn Heights, and a short subway ride from Manhattan.

You can walk across the Brooklyn Bridge, or take the subway. F train to York station. Or, take the A or C train to High Street.

You mean the East River (which isn’t actually a river but a tidal strait but they didn’t know that when it was named) rather than the Hudson River.

i visited DUMBO last year and it is a vibrant area with several bars and restaurants and chic shops and a branch of the Brooklyn Historical Society Museum and the park area with the stunning views across to Manhattan. Well worth a diversion to visit.

For all the talk about being from Brooklyn, one would think you know what river it borders dhammer :)

I second the recommendation. ^ Also a 2 minute walk over to Brooklyn Bridge Park for some more views.

It was hot and a little humid yesterday, and we did lots of walking. I should have posted in the morning, when I was wide awake. Can't believe this native made such a dumb error. :o

How does it compare with DeKalb Market Hall (also in Brooklyn)? ;)

(Obviously, one difference is that DeKalb is underground so it doesn't have views of anything.)

When I think of DeKalb, I think of an indoor https://www.smorgasburg.com/ If you've been there, you know. ;)

Time Out Market has almost as many vendors, but they've taken it up a notch. Just looking at the food vendor names in the link in the OP gives you an idea what to expect. Example > Hard Times Sundaes has delicious burgers, but Pat LaFrieda is an outstanding butcher with a long reputation in the NY area for quality. It's a bucket list burger. Disclaimer, the burger is $15 vs about $9 for the Hard Time Sundaes burger; but worth the splurge.

While DeKalb feels somewhat mall-ish, Time Out Market reminds me of one of the food courts in the Cosmo (?) in LAS. Upscale, and it shows.

FYI, the Brooklyn Reality Tour (BRT) will make a stop at TOM in June 2020. Gotta keep the tour current (and in 2020, not 1969).

I used to work in Dumbo a few years back. Back then the food options were so few that every day we would scour the food trucks that were in the neighborhood. Seems things have changed! Would like to check it out. This might be fun to pair with a visit to Summer Streets and a walk/run across the Brooklyn Bridge

I live in Brooklyn and have been and it's actually good food. It can get rather crowded but it's great when you're working in Dumbo and want something beyond a deli sandwich. I prefer the Lisbon one over the Dumbo one but a happy it opened.

Turns out there is also one in Miami and one in Boston, with several more (including Chicago) in the works.

The DUMBO neighborhood has so many tourists taking pictures on that one street with the bridge that it reminds me of the classic Yogi Berra quote... nobody goes there anymore, it's too crowded.

thing about that street that half the people miss.....the empire state building fits inside the arch....that's how it got famous but now people take that photo...because its famous.

And the original in Lisbon. The idea is for upscale restaurants to tout their wares, experiment, etc. at a lower cost and risk.

Yes, the one in Lisbon was already mentioned in the post I quoted.

All of East Asia camps out there for hours; I’m surprised it’s not yet a backdrop available at photo booths in Seoul.
