Travelling from Manhattan to Allentown

Hi Everyone,

I am a newcomer by account but have been perusing flyertalk for a while.

I have an upcoming business trip in Jan 2016 which requires travelling from Manhattan to Allentown, PA.

Normally I'd just rent a car and drive the 2 hour trip but given it's in the middle of winter, I rather take public transportation.

Can someone please recommend a few options? Thanks very much in advance.

Takes ~2.5 hours on the bus and a r/t fare is $57. I don't think there are any other reasonable options.

Many thanks sbm12 for the bus schedule. Looks like a viable option.

Extended question: if I take the bus option above, which stop would have access to taxis at night? I may not arrive until after dinner.

It may or may not be a "reasonable" option, but a roundtrip excursion ticket from Manhattan to the Sands Casino in Bethlehem, with a local LANTA bus between the casino and Allentown, would likely be cheaper. There are the regular, commercial bus options from Port Authority Bus Terminal, as well as the so-called Asian line-run buses between some NYC neighborhoods and the casino. A call to the Sands Casino's Bus Marketing Department can probably yield more information about the latter.

I think you should just rent a car and drive - there is no easy way to get there on a train

Not sure how much safer you'd be in a bus on the highways than in your own car, as there is no train option.
And the only real issue would be if you have to travel during or right after a snowstorm. Otherwise, the highways are cleared up pretty quickly.

Of course if you have zero experience driving in snow, maybe I'd consider the bus, but only as a backup if there actually is snow on the road. If it's a really bad storm, then it probably won't matter, the meeting should just be cancelled...

If you are at Newark Airport - I believe a service is available from Trans-Bridge Lines for $29. If you are starting in Manhattan probably not ideal vs. goto Port Authority..

Additionally, can check Greyhound from Newark Penn Station (Via PATH train) which is $23

If it's a business trip, are you allowed to use a car service? That way, the driving would be done by a professional in a relatively big heavy safe car and you'd be able to work (or nap) during the drive.
