Local: Tipping Freshdirect

hello NYCers

how much do you tip FreshDirect delivery? 1 regardless of order? 1 per box? no tip? 2 to 5 for large orders?

TIA.

The guy has to walk up 1 flight of stairs to get to my apartment. I tip $2-$3, regardless of order size.

We have an elevator so no steps but he/she often carries 4-5 heavy boxes at once, so it can't be easy. I usually do $2-3 depending on what I have around. I feel bad when I don't have cash and have to give quarters.

Couple of bucks, depending on the size of the order and his/her effort.

Off-Topic

...Or so it says in this thread's title.

How on earth can a thread be off-topic?

hey, I didn't put the OT in the thread title....

I've done $1 pretty much regardless, 2nd story of a walk up. Seems I'm on the low side....

They always seem very appreciative of the tip. I wonder if tipping is the minority position.

I'm wondering why the thread is not about tipping for all grocery deliveries or is there something unique to Fresh Direct that I don't know about since I don't use them?

The only thing that may be unique is that Freshdirect has a lot of delivery folks so you may not get the same people twice. Local stores may mean you see the same people over and over. Having said that I've had the same FD guys a number of times.

I added it to this and a few other threads (Jeans Repair and Good Tailor being some others). This approach is used in the BA Forum to designate threads that are not directly related to the mission of the forum, which for us is travel & tourism in NYC, but that are allowed in the forum because the community enjoys or finds value in them.

Safe to say that few, if any, visitors will have questions about whether or not to tip FreshDirect during their visit to NYC.

For all deliveries or just for FD?

You could make the point that the FD employees are already salaried, unlike the guy who brings your Chinese food.

Even if they are salaried they are more than likely on minimum wage. I mean the local food delivery guy is probably not paid minimum wage because he's probably off books but still the difference between $6 and nothing is not that much.
