Listing of various 9/11 memorials in the NYC region.

As far I could tell, this hasn't already been done, so I thought it would be a good idea to have a listing of the various 9/11 memorials in the NYC area (other than ground zero) that can be visited, for the help of locals and tourists alike.

My knowledge of this area isn't extensive, so I'll start with two: one featured in today's times, and another with which I'm familiar.

Tribute Park, Rockaway Queens
Memorial to the many residents of this area of NYC who lost their lives on 9/11. See this article in the Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/11/us...s.html?_r=1&hp

Eagle Rock Reserve, West Orange NJ

This memorial is located on the first significant rise in elevation west of NYC. Here you get a panoramic view of Manhattan and can read the names of those who died on 9/11. Located just off I-280 about 30-40 mins outside of Midtown, assuming minimal traffic.

Hopefully others can add more!

In Jersey City on the Hudson River Waterfront Walkway, on the corner of Grand Street, a bit north of the Goldman Sachs Building, there's a small memorial of a few steel girders and some artifacts of victims.

Valhalla NY - The Rising

If you take the Harlem line train to Valhalla, you can walk to the Kensico Dam to see the memorial. http://parks.westchestergov.com/inde...04&Itemid=3751

The day has come and gone, thankfully with no security problems. One of the networks (I was switching around a lot on the TV) featured a short film about the massive evacuation on boats from lower Manhattan on 9/11/2001. Tom Hanks was the narrator, the archived footage and recent interviews were truly inspiring.

What floored me was the scope of the efforts. The film stated that more people were transported than in the British troops rescue at Dunkirk. In nine hours more than 500,000 people were evacuated from downtown.

To all New Yorkers, the nation paused today to remember and reflect.

"Postcards" in Staten Island looks outstanding:

I find the Holmdel, NJ 9/11 memorial well-intentioned but a little creepy:

The Firemen's Memorial in Riverside Park was first dedicated 88 years before 9/11, but has become connected with 9/11 for obvious reasons:

Following Themicah's link, got me another one here, http://911memorials.org/?p=1#more-1 which should pretty well contain all the answers to OP's question

Thanks for the link! ^ I guess I could have found that via google, but I also thought it would be cool for people to post info about particular memorials with which they are familiar.

I would never have guessed that the U.S. has over 240 9/11 memorials.
