Ford Transit Connect Approved For Taxi Use

This is a month old and somehow we didn't discuss it.

From the WSJ:

New York Approves Ford Transit and Taurus Taxis

Has anyone been a passenger in a Ford Transit Connect? I was parked behind one today, but it was the commercial version. It looks like it would have great headroom not to mention luggage space.

Looks cool! Will have to keep an eye out for one.

I thought the Crown Vic was Crown Victoria, not Crown Victory.

I'm not sure which will be more strange, these vehicles as taxis or the Lincoln MKZ as the new "black car".

The Toyota Camry as the black car.

I have on several occasions in their native habitat, Turkey. I thought at the time they would make good taxis for America. Like the famous London "black cabs," they are easy to get into and have lots of headroom. Less trunk room, though.

The Turkish drivers -- a least the ones with a decent command of English -- told me that Ford had designed it to be durable and easy to repair, so they might actually survive in NYC. They were all also immensely proud that Turkey was producing a unique vehicle for export to the rest of the world (a first).
