Port Authority raises NY-NJ bridge & tunnel tolls (from Sep 18, 2011)
The PA also wants non ez-pass tag holders (Cash payers) to pay $15 to cross into NY.
They also plan on raising the Path fares from $1.75 to $2.75, which makes it more expensive than the NYC subway..
Hopefully Cuomo or Christie shuts them down or come up with something reasonable.

The Verrazano is an MTA crossing, not a PANYNJ crossing.

Isn't the Ferry like 6 bucks?
But the tolls are a rip off. There is no way to get into Manhattan without paying the PA and they can charge whatever they want at this rate..

The PA wants to raise the path from $1.75 to $2.75 per trip so the rail commuters are also getting it in the end. For people living in Manhattan that lived near a Path Station getting to midtown has been a cheaper option than the subway.

When the Holland Tunnel cost 50 cents each way, the E-L railroad ran a car and passenger ferry from Hoboken to Barclay Street. The total fare for car, driver and passengers was 26 cents. With the raised rates someone has to get a car ferry back in business and compete. Unfortunately there are no docks immediately available but someone from Seattle might have a spare ferry.

I don't remember a time when the PATH were more expensive than a metrocard ride/token.

If the Path is more expensive than the MTA...it's just one more reason for me to almost never visit my friends that live in NJ.
