EWR to Brooklyn
to all the new york experts out there, what is the best way to get to brooklyn from ewr????i want to avoid taking a cab so public transportation would be my first choice....thanks in advance for the replies....

probably depends on where in Brooklyn you're going, but my first thought would be to take the NJ Transit to Penn Station and then taking any of the subways. You can go to most places in Brooklyn with either zero or one transfer from Penn

Take one of the various public transit options to Manhattan (most likely either train to Penn Station or bus to Port Authority or Bryant Park), then take the subway to Brooklyn. Bedford Ave is very long, so the choice of subways will depend on where on Bedford Ave and what day of the week you're going (the L, J or M for Williamsburg; A for Bed-Stuy; 2, B or Q for most other parts of Bedford Av).
Unfortunately there are no public transit options direct to Brooklyn from EWR. |
It won't be a particularly pleasant trip... probably around 1:30 to 1:45 all in. I'd take the train to penn station from EWR and then, depending where on bedford, I'd probably get on the B subway from there.

I avoid the NJ transit train as I find it more trouble than it's worth. I use the CoachUSA bus to Port Authority. It's about the same cost as the Train and picks you up at the Terminal instead of having to ride the air train to the train platform and possibly waiting 40 minutes like I had to. The busses leave every 15 to 30 minutes depending on day and time of day. Only downfall to this is if you're riding during high traffic time it can take some time but so far I haven't had much of a problem. Then connect to the A/C/E train to the L. I figure you're going to Williamsburg as that's the more common destination on Bedford ave but it does span the majority of Brooklyn. If you're flying CO often in their magazine there is a coupon for $5 off the bus.

thanks for the info guys....

If you could get an address, intersection or even neighborhood, it will become much easier to advise you on directions. |

Welcome to the NYC Forum. I live in Brooklyn. Bedford Avenue is a very long street going from almost the northernmost part of the borough in Greenpoint all the way down practically to the southern tip in Sheepshead Bay and passing through many different neighborhoods. Go to http://maps.google.com and type in "Bedford Avenue, Brooklyn, NY" (without the quotation marks) and see.

The B train wont be of any help, the J would be best but you can only catch it DownTown and get off at the Marcy station. Or take the F to York St if the Navy Yard is where youre heading. Either way once you get off youd do best hailing a car service since there are few if any Yellows to be found in Brooklyn and they wont want to do a local trip Or check out the Wiki on how to take the Path Train to Lower Manhattan and grab a Yellow cab from there |
