Need to travel from EWR to LGA by public transportation... HELP
Hi, I need to know how to use the public transportation system to get from Newark International in NJ to La Guardia Airport in NY. Please be really specific because we are from an area that does not have public transportation and we haven't a clue about how to use it!
I saw someone do this for EWR to JFK so I bet someone out there can give me such great details as well.
Y'all welcome a couple of Texas tourist up there this weekend. Using airline advantage miles has already been chalenging enough... it kills me that things that cost $20 around home is $50, $60 or more up there.... WOW!

Over in the NYC section of the forums there is a FAQ with a very detailed guide on all the ways of getting to and from the New York airports. That should help get you started!

Welcome to Flyertalk.
If you need to stick with public transportation (There are buses between the two airports, they cost like $32 and it's a one bus ride full details of the options on this page - http://www.panynj.gov/airports/ewr-a...nnections.html) you could do the following
Airtrain to the Newark airport train station
New Jersey transit to Penn Station in New York
E train to the Jackson Heights station
Q33 bus to the airport
Full details if the trip are in the Wiki with all the options explained in more detail than you will ever need

Cordelli's reply above is a very good one.
Slightly more expensive is to take bus to Grand Central from Newark and another bus to LGA. A bit simpler, but more expensive and a little less predictable due to traffic on the buses

Any thing else is sure to give the OP headaches, troubles, and most probably will get him lost.
The trip to NYC costs so much, $32 bucks is worth it for a direct transfer

A taxi will be something like $90 plus tip and tolls, so unless you have four people traveling together the shuttle bus will still probably be less money.

It really depends on how you define "best." Cheapest? Fastest? Most luxurious?
You can see the options for transfers from LGA to Manhattan, and from Manhattan to EWR, in the FF Wiki, which you can find at http://www.flyerguide.com

Unfortunately, you only get to pick one. The fastest route will likely be the most expensive (probably $100 or more for a taxi or car service with tolls and tip); the cheapest route (~ $5.50) will take about two to two and one-half hours, and require two buses and two trains.
In between those two extremes, you could take one express bus from LGA to Manhattan, and another from Manhattan to EWR. That would cost about $25 +/-, and take about 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Another option is http://www.etsairportshuttle.com, which might be a one-seat ride.
