best cheeseburger in Boston?

I dig Bouche's cheeseburger quite a bit. Charley's on Newbury also makes a fine one. Not so big on Match's stuff, for some reason. Eagles in Brookline is alright if you like the greasy stuff.

Any other suggestions for best burger in Boston?

Mr Bartley's in harvard square is good. greasy and lots of options.

Kinsale near gov center is good too

The burger at the Bristol Lounge in the Four Seasons is the best I've had anywhere, any time. Everything about it is perfect: the meat is first-rate, it's cooked exactly as I ordered it, and the roll is fresh and great. (Don't underestimate the importance of that last part.)

Count me in as one who can't understand the fuss over Bartley's. The bohemian atmosphere is certainly pleasant and unaffected, but I find the burgers to be overcooked and generally unexceptional.

Kinsale has gone waaaayyyyyy down hill in the past few years since it opened. I try to avoid that place these days.

I never really thought of Boston as a burger town. I'll have to try the 4S next time I'm there.

My favorites are Bartley's (don't miss the onion rings) and the Bristol Lounge at the Four Seasons (funny, since wideman loves the Bristol Lounge but not Bartley's!). If you're a big fan of a big ol' hunk of meat, some people love R.F. O'Sullivan's, in Somerville, but I prefer the smaller (but not small) patty served at Bartley's.

Another vote for Bartley's here. :-:

I also had a great burger experience at an Irish Pub near Downtown Crossing, somewhere around Washington / Summer / Winter streets if I remember correctly... does that ring a bell with anyone ? It was apparently a favorite of local Boston Police officers.

Cheers,

Maybe not the best, but the cheapest - McCormick & Schmick's, either in the Park Plaza or Fanueil Hall. Happy hour menu, 3:30 - 6:30 weekdays, has a 1/2 lb cheeseburger with fries for $1.95.:p

I was always a fan of Charley's on Newbury. My uncle's firm was almost directly across from it. I'd try to time visits when I was in college to his lunchtime and we'd inevitably cross the street for a cheeseburger.

I always have an irresistable impulse to eat at Bartley's, but it always gives me a stomach-ache.
Back in school, we loved the cheeseburger deal at Charlie's Kitchen in the Square, but that might have just been just a student thing.

O'Sullivan's on Beacon St. in Somerville has very good burgers. It's about 1 mile from Inman/Harvard/Porter Squares.

Also, the Druid in Inman Square has a good quality burger. I like Bartley's but sometimes find them too greasy.

Generally speaking, people who like Bartley's don't like R.F. O'Sullivan's and vice versa. I'm solidly a Bartley's guy.

The Druid's burger is very good, but a slightly different animal in that it's more heavily seasoned than, say, a Bartley's or RF O'Sullivan burger.

Another local (actually two of us) voting for Mr. Bartley's.

Don't want it overcooked? Don't ask for it well-done. In our (fairly extensive, over decades, but some of it recent) experience, they'll make it any way you want it this side of raw.

In my law school days (1976-79), in addition to Bartley's, my classmates and I often headed to the Allston Depot, which served up a pretty decent burger. I understand that the Depot has gone through a few incarnations since.

And for unground beef, we also liked Buzzy's Roast Beef (especially, late at night).
