Cape Cod Lodging/Restaurants?
 

We'll be in Boston in Sept 08 and want to tack on 2 nights in Cape Cod before our Boston stay. (We have time constraints due to other couple we're with). Anyone have suggestions for staying in the Cape Cod area? Restaurants? (did a search and didn't work). TIA

Have you thought about how far out the Cape you want to be? What sort of lodging are you looking for, what kinds of restaurants and other activities do you like?

Also, what days of the week will you be there? Weekend traffic on and off the Cape can be very painful that time of year. Used to be the season ended for all practical purposes on Labor Day, but now Columbus Day is more like it. (That's a big problem for places that rely on college students on summer vacation for much of their labor force.)

Visit State Capitol... Paul Revere house & Trail ... Lunch at Faneuil Hall...
also in the north end Boston which is predominately Italian are many fine Italian restaurants and Union Oyster House in Haymarket Square...

Visit Museum of Science, MIT and Harvard (in Cambridge), Boston University and Northeastern University in Brookline...

also while in Boston, IF possible, DO have the Champion New England Clam Chowder at the Westin Copley Square...

Boston subway system is oldest and there is even commuter trains to a lot of communities from North Station (NORTH) but main transportation center for Cape and South Shore, Amtrak and Greyhound Buses etc is at SOUTH STATION...

PLEASE be aware that the TRUE CAPE COD are the towns EAST of the Barnstable and Bourne bridges, (technically excluding Plymouth, including the southcoast cities and towns, Martha's Vineyard, Nantucket and the Elizabeth Islands)....albeit they are all gnerally considered "Cape Cod" for the tourist trade.

south of Boston; Plymouth = better to go there in November thanksgiving time and enjoy the costumed parade, church service and feast...but they have a nice touristy history fabrication there :rolleyes: (albeit the Pilgrims landed at Provincetown FIRST NOT Plymouth as touted in the elementary school books...

south of Boston; New Bedford= "Whaling City" history, Old dartmouth Historical Society, Johnny Cake Hill, Seaman's Bethel et al of Herman Melville's MOBY DICK fame...

DO have some stuffed Quahogs from The Whaler in New Bedford's North End...

Other Seafood restaurants: Freestones (William Street, downtown New Bedford) and Davey's Locker in south end New Bedford

Visit Fairhaven's Fort Phoenix overlooking harbor and Fort rodman historical site in south end New Bedford along the harbor pennisula and clarke's cove...

Provincetown, true landing home of the Pilgrims, first church etc,
Memorial Day to Labor day: year-round openly gay community. Artist colony.
Lodging VERY Expensive in summer. Reasonable Columbus day-Memorial Day.

My husband and I have stayed at the Honeysuckle Hill in West Barnstable, which is a small but a very cozy B&B. For restaurants, if you like seafood, Baxter's in Hyannis serves pretty good fish & chips as well as fried clams. We've also been to Captain Frosty's in Dennis but weren't too impressed with the fried seafood there.
