BOS Framingham Remote Terminal Pilot Program
Logan Airport travelers could go through security in Framingham instead of Boston under "remote terminal" plan - CBS Boston
Basically, passengers would be able to go through TSA screening at a remote facility in Framingham and then board a "secure" Logan Express bus that will drop them off at the airside part of the terminal. You would check your bags at the remote terminal in Framingham and they would be kept in a different part of the baggage compartment to be handed off to the airlines on arrival at BOS for sorting/screening. This seems to be similar to what AA is doing at PHL with their Landline bus service to a couple of smaller regional airports in the area (ABE, ACY, AVP, and ILG). The differences are that this would be a dedicated facility (not a regional airport that already has an existing TSA checkpoint) and that it would be available to passengers on any airline. A little bit riskier than AA's Landline service as the Logan Express bus wouldn't be on your PNR so the connection wouldn't be guaranteed. Though? Would this sort of thing interest people coming from Metrowest? |
Obviously a no-brainer for those already using Logan Express. When I fly out of BOS, I usually am traveling from my brother’s house in Needham. Backtracking to Framingham, especially for those of us with Clear and TSA pre-check, doesn’t seem to make sense. That said, if not staying with my brother and not needing to be closer in town, I could see this making the Natick and Framingham hotels more attractive compared to, say, the Waltham hotels where I often stay.
