Boston-Framingham-NYC Luxury LimoLiner Shuts Down
LimoLiner, premium bus line linking Boston with NYC and Framingham, shuts down
STOUGHTON, MA: January 2, 2020: Limo Liner in Stoughton, Massachusetts. Boston Herald.

LimoLiner, a Boston to New York City bus that offered first-class amenities including spacious leather seating and food and drink service, shut down abruptly on New Year’s Eve after declining ridership and revenues, the company’s president said.

“It was a good service and a lot of people liked it,” Mark Richardson, LimoLiner’s CEO and president said Thursday. Richardson, a former Massport assistant general manager of transportation between 1994-2006 and onetime bus driver, took over LimoLiner in 2014.

The company was founded in 2003 by Fergus McCann and touted Wi-Fi service, on-board TV and dedicated work spaces on its only route, with tickets advertised as low as $89. Richardson said LimoLiner used to average about 30,000 riders a year and travel about 500,000 miles a year between New York and Boston, but ridership fell to about 25,000 in 2019.

The last time we used it our cruise ship lost all power for several hours in Buzzards Bay and had to put in overnight for inspection, requiring us to overnight at a Hilton in NYC and to miss our afternoon flight to BOS. Rather than trek out to the airport the next day and fly to Boston, we took the LimoLiner outside of the hotel lobby to downtown Boston. The leather seats were comfy, the WiFi useful, and even the food was better than some airline food.
