Taxi from downtown Hyatt in Boston>airport was VERY reasonable..
We recently spent 4 nights at the HR in downtown Boston and took Uber & Lyft most days (got delayed once when the Lyft driver couldn't find us on 1 Ave. de Lafayette). On our last morning we were a little rushed (my fault) and I decided that instead of screwing around with Lyft/Uber we'd just take a cab that was waiting right outside the hotel. I was expecting a $25-$30 bill. But, the total charge was only $17. We added a $2 tip and were very satisfied.
[Edit: Lyft estimate was $15] |
Your tip should have been $3 minimum.
Downtown Boston is extraordinarily close to the airport. Taxis from the airport to downtown are expensive because of the fees they hit you with, including an inflated toll for the tunnel. |

[From the slightly biased view of an ex-Boston cabbie (when Nixon was President)] |
Boston cabs aren't expensive. It just seems that way because there is both an airport user fee and a toll for the tunnel on the inbound only. That adds a good 1/3 to the fare into the city, while neither apply on the outbound.
Agreed on the tip. $3 is skimping and $4 would be standard up there. |
$3 is easy on a $17 fare,
just hand him twenty dollars For a two fifty fare, and say "Harry, keep the change" or something like that |
