sleeping in BOS
i have a flight that LANDS in BOS at 105am on 24 dec.
i cannot get picked up by my sister until 7am 24 dec. accdg to sleepinginairports.com, i cannot sleep airside. i must exit and sleep near baggage claim. is this true? fyi, can't afford a motel! |
You will have to leave the airside area. You could try to rest near baggage claim or in areas near check-in.
There's a hostel on Stuart Street in Boston, but I'm not sure how you'd get there that late as the subways would be shut down. |
Not great. What airline are you arriving on?

True but some terminals have better nooks and crannies than others. I wouldn't want to wander across all of them at 1:30 am.

Can OP just go to a corner of an adjacent gate and crash there? Or does security diligently walk thru after 1am and evict people?
|
I don't know the answer to the security sweep question.
In Terminal A landside departures level, there are some corners near the escalators/bathroom/bakery cafe on the left if your'e facing security. Arrivals level is darker and cosier but also more likely to be cold and loud. |
FYI, the automated "Attention please, TSA regulations limit carryon baggage..." announcements play all night in every terminal in both the area before security and after security. They are loud.

sounds like i'm in for a miserable experience!! ha
thanks for your help |
Yes, they do evict everyone from airside for a security sweep. They may or may not let you stay landside in the baggage claim area. I heard that they might actually lock all of the doors while the security sweep is occurring
|
You say your sister can't pick you up until 7 AM. Where are you going?
|
my sister has a small child and lives in suburbia boston. she ~wants~ to pick me up on arrival, but it ain't practical!!
if anyone knows of any comfy, heated benches right outside BOS, pls chime in! ha |
Maybe go to one of the airport hotels on their shuttle (either of the two on site as they are big enough to have enough space) and act like you belong there. Find a comfy chair in the lobby in an out of the way place or see if a restaurant has open doors and find a place to doze off. Wear sunglasses and sit up with a magazine or iPad or Kindle in your hand so they think you're reading.
Don't snore or drool. |

Don't snore or drool. unfortunately, i have dreadlocks and a big bushy beard. i might be "targeted" but it's surely worth a try!! |
Well if your sister lives in the Suburbs you can consider using the Logan Express bus service which runs around the clock. They bring you out to the South, West and North Suburbs (I frequently use the one to Braintree). You could consider taking that and then taking a cab to her house (At the ungodly hour of the morning -- but better than the airport).
Also consider taking a bump from the airline if they are asking for volunteers. If your trip is coming up soon there have been a lot of great voucher offers and you could score a free hotel in your origin city with a flight the next morning. |

thanks to all for info. fyi, this is a 1:05am arrival on christmas eve morning. ugh!
|
Maybe your sister can give you an Uber gift card for Christmas.
|
no uber's to her house!
|
Well then it looks like your last hope is a schedule change between now and December, which would allow you to possibly avoid the 1 AM arrival...

Serious answer:
If you are coming in on Delta, you can walk under cover to the Logan Airport Hilton. There is a heated enclosed sky-walkway from Terminal A over to the central parking garage, and another shorter one from the garage to the Hilton. When you enter the Hilton you do so on an upper floor dominated by meeting rooms. If you were checking in, you'd walk past all that and find a down escalator to the lower lobby. But if you stay up there you will find warm, quiet places where you can most likely camp. I would not make a big show of sprawling out and going to sleep, but if you sit down and nod off I don't think anyone will find you. |

Uber will drive about as far out as you can think of. I know Uber is fine with going out to the 495 belt. Taxis same. Sure, cost is a concern (your no motels in the OP definitely indicates that), but logistically they are willing to do it. I've seen people take Uber Houston-Austin, which is almost 200 miles and 3 hours roughly.

uber doesn't go to where my sis lives. but thanks!
I also know Uber serves Worcester, Lowell, Providence RI, Springfield, Amherst/Northampton, the entire Cape, the Islands, etc. Trust me, they will near certainly be willing to drive you wherever you want to go as long as you're willing to pay. It's totally fine if you're not willing or able to pay (I get it, I've walked/taken city buses for some long distances, I'm cheap :D), but they are willing to do it. |
Lyft serves all of Massachusetts now, if you want to do that.
|
loving all the helpful advice. however, arriving on my sister and infant at 230am via lyft or uber is not advisable!!
