Dinner In Boston For a Large Group

I'm a Boston native, and a friend of mine needs help planning a dinner for a group of about 17 people that will be arriving by train. I suggested that we could go to Panera, but I was wondering if others had any suggestions to help us out since nothing else comes to mind at the moment.

This is what we need:

- Location must be near Downtown/South Station. Back Bay is fine.
- Casual. Nothing fancy! Chain restaurants are ok!
- Private room would be nice, but not required
- A place that would not mind us hanging out/around for a while to sit and socialize after dinner.
- Has somewhat of a varied menu to accommodate those with dietary preferences.
- Willing to take a reservation for the group at/around 7PM

It's hard to come up with a good suggestion when you start with Panera as your first option. Are you trying to keep the cost down to that level?

We're not trying to keep costs down, were trying to keep it casual. We would also want a place that would accommodate us, and we figured the lower end, the easier time we'll have.

Fire+ICE already told us no, as they can't do it at the time we'd prefer. (and with some of us arriving via train who may be late due to delays, we'd like to stay as long as we can) Ditto for Boston Beer Works in Fenway.

Plan C would be to try to get the group to have dinner in a suburb (Quincy) instead since half of them are staying there, but that's only if there really are no other options in Boston.

You could try Summer Shack (4-5 blocks from South Station) or PF Changs in the theatre district.

Summer Shack at the Pru is well more than 4-5 blocks from S Station.

There are many options in Chinatown that might work, if the menu/genre is ok for all.

Trade is nearby.

Across the channel is Tavern Road and Bastille Kitchen and many others

Thank you for all the suggestions! One of us made a bunch of phone calls, and The Fours at 166 Canal st took the reservation to host us!

Of course, I should have thought of this one - Kinsale. The Boston Spring Do is there tomorrow. Since mikeef books out the patio every time, I think they would have been able to accommodate us as well!

Oops. I meant Back Bay Station.

With the Bruins and Celtics done for the year, I'm sure The Fours will be welcoming.

The Fours is great, their upstairs should be good for you. Kinsale would have also been good -- these were a bit further than the established parameters, though.
