Callahan tunnel (93 South to BOS) closed until mid March
 

It closed Friday night and is expected to reopen in mid-March, traffic is being diverted to exit 18, then through a bypass road to the Williams tunnel, it added about 10 minutes to my drive in. The Sumner tunnel that goes from BOS to 93 is currently unaffected.

Callahan Tunnel is closed until Mid March (or sooner, perhaps). Sumner is not affected, nor will it be. Ted Williams Tunnel expected to pick up much of the detour traffic, was an easy ride yesterday at noon to 1PM

Optimism and the DOT are like oil and fire, a bad combination. There's a reasonable chance they'll find something unpleasant when they rip up the Callahan, they'll take forever to fix it and somewhere along the way they'll decide the Sumner has the same problem.

They have indeed said that the Sumner tunnel is next, but not until after the Callahan is done.

This may seem obvious to many, but do not follow the detour signs onto 16 from 93 S unless you expect heavy traffic on the way to the Williams tunnel.
